Sheriff Joe in Phoenix, the country's toughest county sheriff, has reported over 700 filed complaints of internet fraud over auction sales. Three local jerks sold a '82 DeLorean on eBay three times for $10,000. They didn't even have the car to sell! Buyer BEWARE!

I've got a new one for ya - a friend of mine sells old oil and gas collectibles, she sold a very pricey old original oil and gas sign on ebay and received a note from the buyer saying that she would send the money out overnight so she could have it right away for a gift for her husband. The next day my friend received a paypal payment with the same user name as the person that had bought the sign, but a different name to mail it to and address. When she contacted the lady that had bought it originally she told her she didn't even have a paypal account. My friend received the other funds from the lady who had actually bought it the next day and shipped the item to her, but still has the money in her paypal account from this other person who tried to get the sign out from under the other lady. The person that sent her the paypal funds will not return her e-mails and she has notified ebay and asked that they investigate. Seems like new ways of messing with people are thought up all of the time. Tami

AC: Three local jerks sold a '82 DeLorean on eBay three times for $10,000. They didn't even have the car to sell! There have been several reports about this on the DeLorean mailing list. There are reports of actual VIN numbers being used, and these cars are for sale by their respective owners - and sometimes the Ebay scammers seem to be using this information. At least 8 such "sales" have happened, and each time the scammers seem to move around afterwards. They were in S.Cal for a while, now AZ. Where to next? Also of note, they often post pics of the car for sale. As seen here with a few cars, "other" people's pics show up to represent the car for sale. Buyer beware, indeed! I can't believe people will send money to buy something like a car without even seeing it first! It's bad enough when someone gets stung for the "small stuff" on Ebay, but when thousands of dollars are in the transaction, I can't believe people are actually willing to send this much money and the car goes "sight unseen", then the buyer asks "Where's my car"...

I bought my Prowler on ebay. I probably would have sent a deposit check to a dealer but since my car was being sold by an individual, I faxed him a copy of my approved line of credit and took bank check to him at the time I picked up the car. I was so emotional about getting the car I did not do as thorough of a job of inspecting the vehicle prior to paying for it and driving off. Fortunatly, people NEVER abuse Black kats so everything turned out OK.
