Friday night we went to see THE PRODUCERS. If you like Mel Brooks, you will love this play. I would highly recommend it. Parts of it are hilarious. Some of the sight gags are really funny. It is typical Mel Brooks, lots of Nazis, Jews and bawdy sex. It is a little slow the first 20 minutes but killer funny in the second act.
Saturday afternoon around 2:30 we went the Kentucky Speedway. If you spent $ 40 in the gift shop you could drive your own car on the 1 1/2 tri-oval track for 2 or 3 laps. They are trying to get a NASCAR race but so far have only had Bush races, IRL, and Craftsman truck races. When I pulled into the garage area to sign the waiver, etc. the woman working there said, "this is the prettiest car I have seen all day". (Richard, I am sorry if you were there earlier in your GREY Prowler, but you should be getting used to it by now). I pulled out of the garage and got behind a woman driving a Mercedes convertible with the top down (temp was a cool 46 degrees, but sunny skies). The guy came up and complimented my car and I asked if he would be leading us around the track and he said he would be. I asked how fast would we be going and he asked "how fast will the car go?" I told him about 125 and he said we would not be going that fast but he would see what he could do. The only other car in our group was a 4 Dr. Jaguar that looked to be 7 or 8 years old with a woman driving, her mild aged to older mother with her in the front and two small kids in the back. I figured I would get in the back and drive slow and then catch up. That did not pan out. They had a second track pick-up truck trailing us to "help us keep pace". I repeat, we were supposed to get either two or three laps. There was some confusion so I am not positive. On the fifth lap, I laid back and got it up to the high 90's in the back straight away but the lead truck was told to slow it down to thwart my attempts. (The driver told me this later). We got either 5 or 6 laps and had an absolute blast doing it. In turn 2 there was a mark on the wall that was the absolute outline of an IRL car. You could see the two wheels distinctly and the outline of the car was readable between the two tires marks. He must have hit the wall pretty hard and pretty squarely.
I talked to one of the security guards and he told me that they rent the track to racing teams for $ 6000 a day. They have to have a security force and a medical emergency team on hand and that is part of the cost.
I was thinking the day after the Smoky Mtns. event would be a great day to rent the place, if that is doable. Anyone interested?
We completed a great day by going to watch my high school alma mater play one of its arch rivals in the first round of the playoffs. They moved the game to the Univ. of Cincinnati to handle the crowd. U.C. holds 35,000 and I thought there had to be over 30,000 there. St.Xavier scored first, Elder tied it at seven. St. X went up 14-7 but Elder tied it again. With 3 seconds remaining in the first half, the Elder place kicker hit the left upright and it did not go thru. Tied at the half. In the second half there were quite a few turnovers, some drama, some big penalties but Elder finally scored and then missed the "point after". There were about 6 minutes remaining. How would you like to be the kicker, he missed a field goal and a point after and if St. X scores he will have the rest of his life to remember his last high school game, the game that he lost with two missed kicks.
But Elder held them and won 20-14. I went to Elder so needless to say, it was a heck of a day. What a game and what a blast at the Ky. speedway. Next year, we have to get a group together for this event. That was the first time I had ever been on a track, much less an 18 degree banked track. At that point I was wishing I had brought the world's fastest PT instead of the Prowler. lol. www.Kentuckyspeedway.com

That track rental is a great idea Ed. 30 cars is only $200 each. Are you going to find out about what a day's rental includes. I'll be there with 2 cars!

Sounds like a great weekend Ed.
As for the track - pursue renting it, then
"Just Say WHEN"! Sounds like a fantastic opportunity.

GPS John - I think Ed will buy your NY Strip dinner if you attend

Ed - $200 a car isn't bad,,,,,,Bondurant School of High Performance gets $275 to $325 (depending on which day) to put in 15 laps at Phx Intl. Raceway. Although they provide the mini-Indy car for you to drive up to 105 mph,,with the old tired out 1600CC Pinto engine for a powerplant. I haven't done their program as I found out their policy is "NO PASSING". God, I couldn't stand that! BTW Ed - If you and I ever get on a track together, you better have some speed mods done to the Campbell's Soup cat because the GREY Alley Cat is going to leave you in it's exhaust fumes.
Let's get ready to RUMBLE

A/C, get signed up for the Smoky Mtns so everyone else can relax, knowing you will be there to entertain them. Andy, I sent an email to the person in charge of the track rental. I do not expect a response for a few days. I will go over to the main office this week, hopefully. I can handle no passing if we can space the car and only have 3 or 4 on the track at a time. We can always break it down into groups of "how fast do you intend to go". Driving the track at 95 was even a lot of fun.
Sasquatch, what makes you think your car is faster than mine?
If it is possible to rent it, I will let everyone know and then we can decide on the best possible date.

That is the only way you will be in front of me, animation.
Cancel the entire good week-end thing. I just woke up and realized it was all a dream when they tried to say the Bengals won a game.
