I realize it is a little early to bring up Christmas, however, I have been wanting to post this for awhile. I think it might be nice if maybe everyone that can do so adopt a family for Christmas this year. I am sure many of you already do. But was thinking an anonymous Christmas stating it was from a member of the Prowler organization would be nice. I have probably not expressed myself well and maybe someone else who does something like this every year might have something to add. I have not participated in anything like this since I live in San Diego about 12 years ago. What do you think?

My name is Pumpkin and I am 18 months old. I don't have many miles on me and I have been a very good girl.So Santa would you come down the chimney with a Prowler trailer or a hardtop. Milk and cookies will be on the front seat. By the way I don't smoke.

I think your idea sounds good ,Taz.

Adopt a family is a great idea and has many rewards.

As you probably know, the holiday season is also "suicide season." People seem to get depressed during that time and you can make a difference. Whether putting a smile one someone's face or maybe even saving their life. You never know.

Additionally, don't forget about the men and women in uniform. Many of them are away from home and would love a home cooked Thanksgiving meal. We, in the Marine Corps, have as many single servicemember to our homes as we can. We can't reach them all. If you have a military base in your area call the base and offer to have someone over for Thanksgiving. You won't regret the experience and I trust you'll find that at least some of todays youth is still respectful and appreciative.

Taz this is a great idea.

When my husband was active duty, we used to have the singles from the ship over for the Thanksgiving, this would allow them to relax, watch football, eat home cooked food, and phone home without standing in line at a pay phone.

We got a great deal of satisfaction from it and they all enjoyed themselves.

This year I have already planned to assist by adopting a family for Christmas along with a group of people. Pooling our resources is a more economical way of doing it this year.

Taz if you want to start a pool for a POA adopt a family put me in for $25.00 just send me an e-mail with were to send the money. Howard as you know my son is in the Marines and will not be able to make it home again this year, last year he had Christmas with a family and it was a wonderful thing for him as most of these young women and men in the services these are the first Holidays they spend away from their familys and as a parent you can tell by phone calls that they are missing it and are not looking forward to spending it on the base. My son is stationed at 29 Palms and I know that if anyone in the area could take in a few people from that area they would really apreciate it as would I.

Good ideas! I was orginally thinking about adopting a single mother with a twelve year old that just escaped an abusive mate. But you have really expanded on that. My town usually does a Thankgiving Dinner for everyone that has no where to go. I am not sure if you have heard of Camp Guernsey-it is for reserves. It is an active training camp with at least 37,000 acres. Since 9/11 we have many more guards here and I am sure that some of them are young living on the barricks by themselves. I will be meeting with the commander on another matter real soon and will discuss with him what I might be able to do for our men and women serving here to make Christmas a little bit better. It is a place to start anyway. Still will adopt my little family, but will try to expand on it as money allows. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
