Since yesterday was the 25th Anniversary of Elvis' death and no one here admitted going to Graceland, it got me thinking. (Which I rarely do). We have had a list of the CD's in our cats on numerous occasions and I don't think anyone has ever listed Elvis as one of the CD's in their changer. How is he such a big star and none of us were very big fans? I never was much of a fan of his but I did fiaally buy a CD of his # 1 hits. I rarely ever play it, though. I thought that was kind of odd. What you think, Willis?

I was never a big Elvis fan. I have never been to Graceland and I don't own any Elvis recordings of any type.

Ed - see my post, this forum, on Fixum seen on tv today! He was at Graceland, holding a candle!OK, I'll admit I was a big Elvis fan on most of his records. He had a very distinct vocal voice and did some fine recordings. Some of the later stuff wasn't that good. Just heard today about dead people and how much they are still making off their name. D. Earnhart, Elvis, John Lennon, etc,,,,,,,are still making 20 million a year off their name or music. I'll sell my name cheap, $1 million!

I have an Elvis Greatest Hits CD, but mostly because it's something every music buff HAS to own. He was a great talent and clearly changed music and entertainment forever. Many of his songs are good, but they're not what I'd personally consider "Prowling" music. I've never been to Graceland, and quite frankly, don't have any desire to make the pilgrimage. I understand many fans' obsession with him as a perfomer and idol, and I'm sad his life was unnecessarily cut short. The King is dead...long live The King. I have been watching Elvis most all day when in the house. I like the music, think the movies are corney but fun to watch and YES, I have been to Graceland & ate at one of his favorite BBQ places. I do not have any albums/tapes or CD's but wouldn't say I would never have any. I do not listen to recorded stuff much. He does have a top seller right now & from what I have heard and is making more $$$$ now than most musicans that are alive. ------------------ Larry & Sue Mayes

We did drive past Graceland once. I think we were coming back from Dallas and took a lot of back roads and we were shocked by the neighborhood around Graceland. It is a nice looking home from the outside but is surrounded by a lot of commercial junk. I thought it would be sitting all alone but it isn't. It is mostly us "older" folks responding. I do not know how old Kevin is, however. CWatson is from Cal. so he would have been watching the Beach Boys if he was old enough. lol. I just thought it was odd that he was such a superstar but none of us claimed him.

ED,you have to remember that the house was built in 1939. I would guess it WAS out in the country then. But as times change so does the neighborhood. There was a house not far from me that looked a lot like Graceland, with guest house out back. It was torn down and now is a Discount Tire. IF elvis had not lived in that house and it was just run of the mill rich guy the house would be gone and a commercial building would be there too.

LOL Ed. You are talking about bands? I thought you were talking about the Canadian ice skater. He had some kewl music that he skated to.I think I have heard of this Elvis you speak of... didn't he have a bunch of blue shoes or something like that?? You're right! The Beach Boys were my group! And still is - nothing like rollin' down the road listening to Surfin' USA Another great singer is Neil Diamond... You should see him rock out at the Greek Theater on a Hot August Night Kevin - I have heard of the band Wings, Paul McCartney was in that? I thought he was an up and coming artist that got a lot of press because of the recent marriage to his grand-daughters best friend (I had to edit what I was really going to type because Gina said I was being mean... hint... prosthetic leg). You know, there is another ol' chap that used to be on Thomas the Tank Engine (Children's TV show) whose name is Ringo Starr. Him and and McCartney should get together and sing sometime... I think they would be a hit!

Jkburns, who is Paul McCartney? What is Wings?I have 8 Elvis CD's. I play them loud whenever we go to a car show or race. They are a big hit. Bring a big smile to everyone that recognizes that that is Elvis. I saw him in concert four times. It was thrilling. There has never been an entertainer nor will there ever be an entertainer like him. The excitement of his singing and just his presence on stage was awesome. I have never been to Graceland. I don't know if I care to go. I liked to listen to his music and dance to it. I got everyone of Elvis' records as they came out, singles and LP's. Now I have them all on CD's. Along with Elvis' CD's in my cars I have Beethoven, anything by him, I have all the symphonies, concertos, and what ever else Beethoven wrote. I like the power of his music. Also I have the three tenors music. Nothing like going down the road, top down, Elvis, Beethoven, or Pavarotti screaming out of the speakers…… I love it. You should try it, those who haven't. You don't need to up grade to more power with them on your player. Power is the name of the game.
