There was a post on another forum and I couldnt help but wondering what experiences you might have with all your cars.
Want good service, then buying American may not get it done. I have a Ford, Chevy, Plymouth and a Pontiac... service is all the same. It sucks. My parents have a BMW and a Lexus... Now they receive good service! Just face it, there are so many American car dealers that some of their techs are just above literacy.
I brought my Prowler in for some warrenty repairs. The top had a slight leak... the Prowler specialist said this about the leak.... "All convertibles leak a little" Ok I spent good money on this car and thats unexceptable. I hope it's fixed, but havent driven it in rain. Then they needed to order a part. After one month with no call, I call them. They say " Oh we have had it for a while." Why no call???Also I am still waiting to hear about my front fender splash guard clip. My car was without one new..... it's been 2 months with no word yet.
I brought my Vette in for a recall. They had to go into the dash to do it. I got the car back and it is rattleing so bad that I made a U-turn right away. I brought it back and told them. They said this " With a sports car ride, your going to get some rattles" I had none when I brought it in..... They fixed it eventually... after two visits also.
The girlfriends WS6 was in for a oil change and tire rotation. We pick it up and ALL the wheel lock nuts and key are gone. The dealer tried to say thats the way the car came in. They eventually gave us new ones.
Finally my Mustang... back when it was still in warrenty I had a problem with the leather discoloring. They said they were going to repalce the whole seat.... I thought cool! I get the car back and there is a small scratch in the door jam from their sloppy work.... I show them. They say " You sure that wasnt there already?" They offer to paint it.. sure that would end up a bigger mess I leave..... The 1st sharp turn I take... the damn seat nearly comes off the floor.... they forgot to bolt it down all the way!!!! I fixed it myself and got on the phone. I never used them again.

Is there a truly good honest service dept. out there for American cars????? I am waiting to find one.

I agree with you about North American Car Companies and their lack of respect for there customers and their products.

I have written several times on this site about the lack of GOOD service, I have also read several "many" others comments on the lack of GOOD service.

Others on this site took the opportunity to express to me about how not all dealers are bad and that DC has many bad and many good dealers.

Well perhaps we should share the name of the good ones and start a link to them so when we travel and have issues with our cars we can seek them out. Not only that those who live with 1000 miles of that one good dealer will have someone to go to..

We in the Toronto Canada area discuss this at great lengths trying to find a dealer we can trust and expect the kind of service ANY car owner is entitled to.

I said I would never buy North American again after my Lincoln and I hadn't till I got my prowler.

Once again never again will I buy North American .

Sorry if I offend any one but let's face it we North Americans don't get good service from most North American dealers.

Just scan our pages to see the issues.

It is not only the dealers, I feel DC has let me down by not fixing known problems with Their Showcase Car for free.

I have owned three Cadillacs a 93, 95 & 99. I have had excellent customer service on all inclding a free Cadillac rental whenever I had any warranty work done (mostly in for recalls). My 95's transmission went out after warranty. A washer broke and the pieces clogged a fluid line. Cadillac still paid half. Only thing that disappoints me about the Caddie is the rapid depreciation. However I had an 89 Acura Legend that did the same thing depreciation wise. Oh yeah, I almost forgot the seat split on my 95 near the controls panel on the side of the drivers seat. Cadillac replaced the the whole seat.
Here is what I have encountered, the only thing that went wrong with my Acura in 6 years was the battery went dead in less than 24 months and the power antenna broke. So yes the car was very reliable. But to mantain the warranty I had to have the full scheduled maintenance performed. Minor service every 7,500 miles at around $250, major service every 15,000 at about $500. At 20,000 miles plus a year it averaged nearly $1,000 a year. Also, every time they tried to charge me $10 for wheel weights which they could not put on because I had BBS wheels. Who knows what else I was charged for that I did not get. One other example, a friend with a Honda dropped me off one night to pick up my car. She had a burned out headlight and asked Acura service how much to replace it. They quoted $25 installed. She went to Honda down the street and they charges her $10 installed. (Same bulb). On the Caddie to maintain warranty all I have to do is get the oil changed at the suggested intervals and that does not even have to be done by Cadillac.

So the operating expense (at least on high end foriegn cars) is much greater ( based on my experiences). No wonder the high end foriegn dealers have excellent service. They are making a killing in thier service departments. I would have rathered saving the $1,000 per year and stiil get the same service as I get now from Cadillac. This is why the Acura was the last foriegn car I have owned in the last ten years. JMO

The thing that erks me the most is that I am good to everyone at the dealer. I am very understanding as to the time it takes to do a repair. If they need the car longer, it's not a big deal. I always take care of the service writer as well. Usually a $20.... and in the case of the Prowler I gave the Prowler Tech $$$ too. But I guess thats just the way it goes. I just expect too much maybe. A friend of mine said it best. How car a Mechanic get in your new Vette (in this case) and hear a rattle when he owns a 6 year old truck that has rattles everywhere. I guess thats right.... I know in my profession and even my whole life I sweat the details. So I just expect everyone else is like me. But they arent.
