I can't believe there are people out there wanting to remove "under GOD" from our pledge. Then this country wonders why our children suicide rates are sky rocketing. No more morals instilled in them. These children then grow up thinking they can do whatever they want. If I don't like a person, just kill him on the spot. Since they never got tought what the word of GOD says "Though shalt not Kill" or "Though shalt not steal" or "Though shall love thy neighbor". I wonder how this country will be when GODLY bible principles are no where to be found. An atheist physician from Sacramento gets tired of hearing GOD and finally gets offended and creates a lawsuit. This country was founded "IN GOD WE TRUST". Can't handle it, there is always "RUSSIA". I should create a lawsuit against people who don't believe in GOD. This offends me!! VERY STUPID RULING!! The phrase "under God" violates the separation of church and state ------------------ This message has been edited by dpena on 06-27-2002 at 06:23 PM |

I agree completely. There are plenty of people in countries around the world that leave their country because they don't like it. You never here that about the USA. Maybe they should start leaving and going to those countries like Russia and China. O'yeah how about Cuba. It's worked out real well for them. GOD BLESS AMERICA |

I had to laugh when I heard that guy's reasoning that he didn't want to subject his child to the pledge. When I was the kid's age, I could barely remember the words let alone understand them. What a joke |

I don't know if any of you frequent the viper forums, but they currently have a very long thread on this subject. If you can handle harsh language I suggest you check it out. I think it represents both sides of the fence quite nicely. http://vca1.viperclub.org/ubb/Forum17/HTML/004055.html It seems that my personal feelings are not in the majority (and I'm ok with that). I happen to agree with the ruling. Don't get me wrong "God is Good", but I just don't happen to think his place is in our government, he should be in our hearts and in our souls (if you choose to believe). I wonder if this guy was praying when this happened. What did he think about GOD then?? |

Yes, I'm sure he was Dan. As they hijacked the planes and steered them into the towers, I'm sure that they did pray to their God. Over the centuries, more lives have been lost in the name of religion than any other cause I can think of. Every religion seems to believe that theirs is the ONLY true religion and most will fight and kill to prove it. Look to the middle East right now, they all think they are right and will kill many innocent people to prove it. Kind of like bombing abortion clinics to protest killing.
We ALL have our beliefs and this website is not the place for these discussions. |

As a person who now resides in California, I can tell you that the Pledge of Allegiance is said every morning at my son's school (a public school). |

For those people who believe in God.......the ruling is ridiculous. For those people who don't believe in God.......the ruling is considered important. I'm not judging whether or not this ruling is right. I have my own feelings, which I will keep to myself. However........should we not pledge allegiance to the flag with or without the debated phrase? Why should we not be able to pledge our allegiance. Does this mean we can't sing "God Bless America" anymore? In this time of terrorist activities and uncertainty as to the future of this world, I would think that this is the time we should all be pledging allegiance to this flag with or without those words. We live in a country where we have freedoms that are unmatched by any other country. We need to instill loyalty and allegiance and love for and to our country. We should be proud to live here and we should be proud to say it. Having a son in the military makes me very proud, but I hate to think that he is out there fighting for and upholding our freedoms for people who are arguing about a few words. Compromise is a good word in this case. If you don't believe that part, then just don't say that part. We need to stand united......I wonder how the rest of the world is perceiving this and how loudly they are laughing at us. |

i agree 100% dan, that is why our world is so screwed up!!!!!!!!! people are always in a rush with their lives they forget their kids, but are they forgetting that they are the future and what we do now will affect there future, it brings me to that song "when the children cry, let them know we tried, all that we destroy you must build again"! i think that the guy should move to afghanistan and he can do whatever he likes. It's the same thing with "dcyf", yah granted their is some bad parents, but you can't correct your child when he get's out of line, or "dcyf" will step in, i know if i did, when i was younger my dad would've $%#$% my $*** , i say there is a lack of respect towards each other! it's not who's better, there is always someone better! but how about working together!!! "United We Stand" well gotta go, this is a touchy subject for me too dan! |

Well here's a person from another country's take on your issue here. " Who the Hell thinks of these kind of things at times like this, is there an alternative agenda behind this person or persons coming up with these demands to ommit those words" I didn't get to see the whole story on this subject as I've been haven't been watching that much TV lately so not completely clear on all the fact's, but how come it took so long for them to come out of the woodwork did they just get born yesterday? At a time like this your country doesn't need a debate like this tearing into all your hearts and souls especially your men and women fighting for yours and Those peoples right to a better life and freedom. I can't count how many times in my life I have watched people in the USA standing at attention hand on heart staring staight ahead proudly reciting your pledge, some have been the worst of the worst kinds of people but they still hold strong to those words. I hope these omitions Myself as a Canadian enjoy as much freedom as you do, don't lose faith surely the strong will servive here. PK |

The ninth district, where this decision came from, is really quite famous for being completely out of touch with public policy, etc.. 37 of 39 decisions have been overturned by the US Supreme Court!!! |

I was off base on the above post. This is indeed the place to post "off topic discussion". This message has been edited by Chromer on 07-01-2002 at 02:47 PM |

Had to speak my mind also. Served under the US flag for four years and "In God we Trust" was what we believed in and many died for. So if anyone is offended, let them be quiet or NOT say the pledge!! Our country stands for the rights of all and no one is forced to say the pledge. I think some of these judges make ruling just to get attention brought to themselves and get there names in the papers and don't even think of what there rulings are effecting or do they care. Thanks you, I've said my piece!! PS> If you don't like the country, they are free to leave and I will even support with funds to help move them out. Again Thanks |

Just heard on the news today that Judge Alfred Goodwin, who wrote the opinion for the Ninth District on this matter, referred to all that are protesting the decision as:
