We live in Southern New Mexico but since yesterday we are now seeing the effects of the terrible fires in Arizona. We are at least 300-400 miles away and this is what we saw when we woke up this morning, picture taken at 8am MST.

Compare to what our view usually looks like:

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those effected including those in Colorado. We saw the effects first hand when we were in Colorado for the Prowler event two weeks ago.

Taken on the way back from Littleton to Colorado Springs, 2pm on Jun 9.

Check out this link. It is a satellite picture of the AZ, NM, UT, CO area and shows the smoke path - just amazing!

Its a nasty, inferno fire. Now approaching 450,000 acres. That translates to about 550 square miles,,,,,or the whole L.A. area. Still at 0 containment, and going strong. Last week there was a plume of smoke that looked like a huge thunderhead cloud, rising up to nearly 30,000 feet, that we could see from Phx - 150 miles away!

Thanks to the tree huggers and ground squirrel lovers, logging was stopped in this area a decade ago, leaving tons of undergrowth to now fuel this fire.

Animal displacement is minimal,,,adult animals are staying ahead of the fire but the young ones are getting caught. Now the problem is deer, elk, mountain lion, and black bear heading into population areas for shelter.

A hot ember landed on a truck last night from the sky, the size of a softball! This fire is a monster!
