I just bought a Toshiba 1905-S277. I really like it and purchased it for the main reasons: 1. Integrated Modem, Network Card (Most have this now) Here is a PDF (need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view it) spec sheet: I had a Compaq 1810 that I purchased in '98 and I LOVED it until it developed a loose connection to the motherboard where the charger plugs in. In my research I found out that that is a pretty common design flaw in Compaqs. If it wasn't for that, I would have looked for another Compaq (then again, if it wasn't for that, I wouldn't have a new one, I would still be using my 1810!). ------------------ This message has been edited by CWatsonJr on 04-18-2002 at 11:01 AM |

I travel approximately 250 to 300 nights a year and own about a half dozen laptop computers. The best one to own in my opinion is a Dell. I tried Gateway and had to replace theirs multiple times before I could get it to work properly all the time. I have owned a couple of Dells and after trying something new each time I always seem to return to Dell. ------------------ This message has been edited by Kimo on 04-18-2002 at 11:27 AM |

I would have to agree with Kimo .. I travel extensively and burn many hours dialed up ... have used a Dell Inspirion 7000 and now a Dell Lititude ... they both absorb the abuse I give them and their (Dell's) service support (if needed) is great! Good luck and happy shopping. |

I just bought my wife an HP, 256MB, 1.2Gz, DVD/CD-R for $1399 less $100 instant rebate and $100 mail in rebate. Pretty good deal and she loves it. A lot cheaper than Dell or Gateway. |

Dells are great but often heavy (which in my opinion defeats the purpose), but not enough to keep me from owning one. The main reason they are heavy is the Huge screens they can come with. Sony's are good but I hear its tough to upgrade the Hard Drives should you want to later. Compaq are not good...too much proprietary parts and software that make using/upgrading them a pain. ------------------ |

Ok, Finally a thread I can actually contribute to. ;-) Of course, it seems I'll start my tenure here on the boards as a contrarian... The Apple iBook is a great machine, if you're really just web surfing and email checking. It can even run that "other" OS if you really need to. And if you want the professional horsepower, you could go with the TiBook ... As a matter of fact, I am biased. Why do you ask? ;-) Check out my profile "homepage" to see why I might favor Macintosh. -brad |

Steve I am on the road almost all the time (except when I am home) any way I have had several lap tops mostly sony's but was talked in to a Dell inspiron. It was the best move I made great deal, easy folks to deal with good features big screen, mouse pointer and touch pad and more, they can build you what you want in my case I wanted a work horse with out a lot of useless software like you get in some store bought models as he says on TV just call or go on line and the folks at dell will help ya ------------------ |
