Someone showed me a picture of this car last year. I saw it for the first time in one of their TV ads last week. With Bob Lutz now being with GM, I am sure they will do something to it, to make sure it rates better than the prowler. ------------------ This message has been edited by CWatsonJr on 01-07-2002 at 01:20 PM |

They just intervieved Lutz on CNBC I think from the way he was talking we'll see some pretty wild things coming from GM I wouldn't mind having one of them in my garage.. PK |

Anyone see the GT40 proto from Ford at the Detroit auto show? Looks even better then the original from what I saw. 500+ blown HP. Dont I wish they make it, and dont I wish I had one in the garage next to my Cat. ------------------ |

The concept SSR had a 400 small block in it. It was at the Chicago auto show in 2000, so long before Lutz at GM. This should be one cool truck. Now it would be a cat hauler for those that like to tow in style. ------------------ |

I believe I read they may put a version of the Vortec 5.3L V8. Should be around 300hp. This engine is in my Avalanche - 285hp. I would like to get one of these also. I actually wanted one to replace my old Nissan P/U, but I got the Avalanche instead. It's more functional with 4 doors for the family and hauling ability. The SSR is basically another 2 seater convertible sports car. ------------------ |

The SSR is very cool but I don't know if I an justify another two seater. And even if I could, I would probably get a Second Kat. We fell in love with the PT Conv at the Black Tee Party and if Ford builds the Forty-Nine, well lets just say I'm in deep trouble. ------------------ |

The cover on the Jan. 7, 2002 edition of AutoWeek features the SSR, and includes a 4-page article. Regarding the powertrain, the article states: "The SSR powertrain teamopted for the Tahoe's Vortec 5300 V8 and 4L60-E four-speed automatic transmission. The 5.3 liter Gen III small block cranks out a peak 285 hp at 5200 rpm and 325 lb-ft at 4000 rpm. However, this Vortec 5300 is all aluminum like the Corvette's LS6, making the SSR the first "truck" with such a small-block. The SSR goes into production at GM's new Oklahoma City plant late next year and should begin arriving in showrooms by March 2003. If you want one, get to your local Chevy dealer early, because we don't expect GM to build more than 20,000 or so. And with a sticker that should start in the mid-to high $30s, they'll move out fast." There is also a small article in the February 2002 edition of Automobile. How many of us think the Chevy dealers will stick with the $30,000 MSRP! NOT! |
