On Saturday, Nov. 17th we joined our Big Easy Mopar Assn. for a cruise from New Orleans to Houma, La. We caravaned to Southland Dodge & Joe & Jeff Teutone's Hemi Pro Stock Racing Shop. They had eight of their race cars & trucks on display with our cars. These guys have been drag racing since the 50s. They just returned from Pomona, Ca. & Las Vegas ending this years racing season. They'll start back up in Feb. out in Ca. once again.

I would like to thank Jeff & Joe for their hospitality. We had 40 Mopars there on Saturday. Two Prowlers, one PT, one Durango & one Viper joined the classic Mopars. The weather was almost perfect. It was cool in the shade & warm in the sun. Jeff & Joe BBQ hamburgers & sausage & provided beverages for the group. We got to see there engine Dyno & the beginning of another race car under development.

This is the shop that did the work on the Viper I've been seeing out at No Problem Raceway. I heard yesterday they got the Viper down into the 10.2s on Wednesday this week. And, they haven't tuned the engine yet... They installed a Viper racing engine & a three speed automatic from a 99 Diesel truck into this Viper. The Viper owner lives in Houma. It's my understanding that the Viper is putting out over 800 HP & 650 lbs of Torque. This is a street legal car...

After the 200 mile cruise, I'm still amazed at the improvement in handling from the installation of the G-Force Top Link. My Prowler feels like I'm riding in a luxury car (compared to what it use to be). And, the handling & steering wheel is just so steady. I just wished I had this for the other 13,000 miles....

The other Prowler was a 99 Black with 1200 miles from the local Houma area. First time I've seen this car & actually was driven by the owners son. He said his Dad wanted to sell the car (never been in the rain). Into boats & other stuff now...

Mark, I worked for a guy that did custom paint. We painted the car shamrock flake with black lace over gold flake side panels. I never made it to the track with the 440 in the car but used to run Automatic I Stock with the 318. The progression was a stock 318 to a modified 318 with cam, dual quads and headers to the 440 that I got from a guy that used to run pro stock. He was a crazy guy and we cut up his Plymouth for insurance and I got his engine and 4.89 rear. drum to drum with race leave springs for about 600 bucks if I remember correctly. Can you believe it!!! New unnumbered block, stage 3 heads, forged true button pistons, crankshaft company crank, racer brown roller, etc, etc. Bet those names stir up some old timer's memories. Just when it got good, I got an offer I couldn't refuse and got an XKE. In retrospect a BIG mistake. The guy I sold it to ran 11.70s with the car. It was a 3800 pound car.

Al - did you do the lace paint yourself? I always wondered if my mom knew what happened to one of her lace tablecloths. When I was a senior in high school, we used it to paint lace racing stripes on my 64 Chevelle and best friends 67 Impala SS. Guess maybe at Thanksgiving I should ask her if she ever figured it out.

Laddie - it looks like you all had agood and great weather. I always getting together with other car crazy people.

Happy Prowling

Marty, there were only two of us in the shop and I did all of the grunt work but did some spraying too. We did lots of custom paint jobs on race cars . All there was in 69 was laquer and enamel. We used laquer and I used to go home with finger tips bleeding from wet sanding. I got the lace from a fabric store as I needed a piece the length of the car. The paint job was payment for work. My choices that month were the paint job or a straight axle. (econoline) Now that I look at the car, I see why I like the painted center caps on the Cat. Man, was that gaudy

It may be gaudy now, but back then I'll bet you were the envy of all your friends.

My friend Tom's dad owned an upholstery shop and had a spray gun we used for the lacquer paint. My car was silver and Tom's was white so we chose black paint. When I drove home, my mom was almost in shock. Dad told me it was a good thing it was MY car and I had paid for it myself. When I got ready to sell the car, the girl that bought it had me spray the stripes solid black.

Happy Prowling

Marty

PS - do you have your car back yet or get it soon? I would be sweating bullets waiting to see how it drives!!

Marty, buy your Mom a table cloth for Turkey day and then tell her what you did You know first hand how much attention the lace paint got. My friends loved it. My folks thought I was crazy. As I reminise, I realize how much I got done for such little $ back then.
MY CAR~~~MY CAR!! What car????? I drove it last month and it hauls butt. In the Mod process the rev limiter was bypassed and for some reason the tranny never shifted to 2nd in drive. Results, floated ring and broke the piston. Blower pistons being put in now. We need to alter the torque curve as there is WAY too much power down low. It feels like an on and off switch. I think it was you that warned me, but I'm not ready to throw in the towel yet. Do they make snows for 20 inch rims?

I like the lace look. That was the in thing in the late `60's and early `70's. I was going to ask if you took your mothers tablecloth but it looks like Marty was the thief and you bought yours.

When I was in school there was a guy with a plum crazy purple `70 Charger 500 with white top and interior and in the inset in the doors was white lace. Really liked that car. The guy that owned it has sold it 2 times and now is in the process of restoring it, but bought a beautiful `70 Charger R/T in same color combo but I have not been able to talk him into the lace on it.

Lace doorinserts didn't occur to me back then. I covered mine with blue/white paisley material!! Too bad I have already had my door panels covered. Maybe GaryC can do a lace interior in his new Viper

Happy Prowling
