Thanks Dan---that hurts. But you forgot to mention that with the milk bottles, that the top 2" of the bottle contained real cream. Also, remember when you couldn't get real butter during WW2, only margarine, which came in a plastic bag -- was completely white in color and had an reddish-orange gelatin capsule inside which you had to squish/break then kneed the entire mess for about 15-30 min. to obtain the desired "yellow" coloration -- gas was 10-15 cents a gallon, cigaretts were 15 cents a pack and a new car cost less than $2000.00, phones were the "candlestick" shape, a pair of blue jeans were only a couple of bucks and it didn't cost more than $10.00 for a week's worth of groceries -- a new 3 bedroom house could be had for around $5000.00 max! The radio had a green "tuning/signal strength light" and was the main source of family entertainment (pre tv).

Come on Scot -- jump right in here and help me out.

OK Dan - here is what I think about the various items listed.

1. Blackjack chewing gum - I now substitute Black label Jack Daniels.
2. Wax Coke-shaped bottles with colored sugar water - have wife with coke bottle shaped figure and like her "sugar" better
3. Candy cigarettes - smoking is bad for your health
4. Soda pop machines that dispensed bottle - still do only they are plastic
5. Coffee shops with tableside jukeboxes - Dan, try Lori's in San Francisco on Powell Street - nice diner, good food too!
6. Home milk delivery in glass bottles with cardboard stoppers - one local dairy in Louisville still delivers (plastic bags of milk that fit in a pitcher)
7. Party lines - I thought this was about how Repulicans and Democrats vote
8. Newsreels before the movie - same principle now only on first few minutesr of VHS movie rentals
9. P.F. Flyers - I always thought Keds were better
10. Butch wax - don't have enough hair to use this
11. Telephone numbers with a word prefix (Olive -6933) - it was a lot better than 10 digit dialing now in a lot of cities
12. Peashooters - I only wish that was all kids carried now
13. Howdy Doody - never liked the show
14. 45 RPM records - have records but haven't played them in years
15. S&H Green Stamps - same principle being used today on rewards programs like credit cards, air travel, etc. must be good marketing ploy to have lasted.
16. Hi-fi's - still have my college stereo with turntable
17. Metal ice trays with lever - my son uses ice trays ijn his dorm room refrigerator but I don't know about the levers
18. Mimeograph paper - Absolutely use to love the high from the smell
19. Blue flashbulbs - so, should I trade in my Kodak 110 flash camera for a digital one?
20. Beanie and Cecil - I finally met someone a couple of years ago named Beanie, his sister is a client of mine.
21. Roller skate keys - was glad when I got a pair of real skates instead of clamp on ones.
22. Cork popguns - see # 12
23. Drive-ins - Still have two of these here also open in Summer
24. Studebakers - that was the name of a Nightclub here
25. Wash tub wringers - caught my fingers in one as a kid

Some of the "old" things are still around in one form or another.

I must be old. I know all of those things too well. But I'll bet any Prowler junky my age also knows what a high boy looks like flying along the salt flats, and in high school dreamed of the channeled, deuce roadster with the new hemi mill, as clean as George Barris and his boys could make it.
