I am thinking that a new Ford Thunderbird would be a welcome addition to the Prowler et. al. Any thoughts? Is anyone else considering this possibility?

I was at the Vintage Grand Prix here in Pittsburgh and they had a new Mini Cooper on display. Not sure that it's in the same league as the cars you own, but it's a really neat car that you might also want to consider. The lady said they'll be sold at BMW dealers come March.

Scott, I went to the car show 3 years ago to see the new T-Bird but they only had one prototype and it was at the Chicago car show at the same time. Therefore I did not get to see it. At that time I did not know that the Prowler came in any color other than Purple or that the price had dropped from the $80 K range. I was probably going to buy the new T-Bird but also did not know it was still 3 years down the road. I found out the price on the Prowler was down in the $40's and bought mine.
This past March I saw 5 or 6 T-Birds driving down I-75 in Georgia while on my way to Florida. They were all black and had manufacturer's plates on them. They were fairly dirty due to the weather conditions but still looked pretty good. I like them but they are not a "I have got to have it" in my opinion. They are somewhat reminiscent of the 55 T-bird. I have only seen black and yellow in person. Is the sticker in the mid 40's?

To me, its looks like just another nice car-ie. Boxster, TT, Z3 come to mind. Nothing really special or unique except for the name. The Honda S2000 is much sharper, faster and cheaper. I'm not drawn in by marketing labels although I do wear those shirts with the guy riding a horse. The new T Bird looks a little bubbly, not sleek. Looks like that amphibious car that was made 30+ years ago. The stance of the car-well-the car looks like its yawning.

If I was looking to spend some $ I'd prefer to get a GP1200R by Yamaha. Quicker and turns better. Only downside is the insurance is higher than on a new T Bird.

(Let us know what you think of the new T-bird, after you drive them for a bit).

I like the T-birds too.

Its looks good, just not for me. I have more interest in either the Chevy SSR (need to see in person)or the PT Conv. Now if Ford would build the Ford Forty-Nine that one really floats my boat. I would replace my wifes car with it.

The front headlights look like a Neon, Say Hi! Barf,,,,

Local Ford dealers now are thinking 20 to 40 grand over list. You got to be kidding, ANY TAKERS NOW???

I looked at one at Phx Auto Show, didn't interest me, so I'd pass. All hype.

I sort of like the T-bird, but my wife is thinking Vette. Not sure what we will get next.

There's nothing that gets the heart thumping like a Prowler. For me the only other possible Ford turn on would be the '49 convertible rod I may build someday.

The Ford concept above is called the Ford 49 and uses most of the mechanicals from the LS/T-Bird. Today's Automotive News reports Ford is taking a close look a production. It was really cool in person at the Detroit Auto Show.

I had a black 49 Ford 2-door during school days

Maybe they can bring back the flathead V-8, so we can wrench on the cars again.

I've seen Ford's possible entry into the retro market, and it does look nice. But if you've ever nosed and decked a 40-51 and did whatever else you could afford, you have probably dreamed of what it really could be. For example I've grown attached to those big rear wheels. A channeled '49 with big wheels could have radiused rear wheel openings with moulding that extended straight to the taillights. And there could be a lot more. Pure joy is bringing your personal dream to reality.

My wife got an 02 last month...she loves it!

Got it for 38K.... watch out for evil dealer markup! Another local dealer was asking 51K for an 03!

The 03 models have (02 doesn't have):
30 more HP
30 more ft torque
heated seats
revised boot design

But 02 had the turqouise blue my wife loved...and boy, the price was right! the 03 blue is horrible IMO. Too baby blue for us, and others who have seen it.

The whole car is a Lincoln LS platform and drivetrain. Rides rock solid...like riding in a bank vault. Power top is fully lined and no wind noise with top up! Gets almost as much stares as the Prowler.

You can't go wrong with this car IMO. We love it!

Highly recommend www.thunderbirdnest.com

Same type of discussion board as we have here...nice people too!

We looked at the t-bird and we also agree, we have the S-2000 and yes to all the above. It really gets up and goes for a four bagger.

I looked at the T-BIRD when I was looking at the Prowler, bottom line. The PROWLER is way cool the T-BIRD looks like to me looks like a Chrevon toy car or a boat... But its your $$$ and everyone has there own taste.
