Help.....we had heavy rains here in Cincinnati last night and the water TOTALLY submerged my son's 1992 Eclipse. Water was to the top of the roof. It was like watching the Titanic go down After the water subsided, we disconnected the battery and proceeded with a clean up. I have removed the radio, amp, instrument cluster and any connectors to swithces I could get to. There does not appear to be water in the crankcase, although I am going to drian it and refill. I'm not sure about the gas tank. We are leaving for vacation on Friday and I plan to leave the car opened up in a warehouse while we are gone. ANY OTHER IDEAS OR SUGGESTIONS would be appreciated. ------------------ |

Ken - In 1986, a co-worker took her two-week old Nissan Z into a raging wash. Insurance company spent over $5,000 and three months time rebuilding her car, and that was with 1986 dollars. I'd pull the seats and carpet out, trunk carpet out also. A ton of Febreeze or Nature's Miracle to remove the odor. What about water in the door panels? Drop the fuel tank and empty. Transmission, automatic? Water will kill them. If it can go back together and run, clean up, polish, detail out, and head straight to the auction ring with it. Gone, but not forgotten, best way out............ |

Larry has the best idea. Clean it up the best you can, unload it, and dont look back. It could haunt you for years otherwise. OMO ------------------ |

Alley Kat: (my daughter's nick name by the way, her real name ia Alise Kathleen, hence: Ali Kat) I hate to give up the car. My son and I have a lot of time in it and we just finished putting on a Street Weapon body kit. The trany is a 5-speed so it sould be sealed. The fuel cap seemed to be sealed pretty good, although draining it would probably be a good idea. There is no water on the dip stick. I'm more concerned about electrical issues right now. Thanks for the response. ------------------ |

Ken - after vacation, give it your best shot. If it runs and all works after afew months, maybe you saved the Titanic! If it starts with little problems after assembly, the bigger problems may follow. JMO Say hello to Alise Kathleen! Kewl nickname! My father always told me those alley cats were prowlers ------------------

No experience with a car, just the odd snowmobile. I suspect that any foam filled components, ie seats will not dry out. A snowmobile (foam) seat was still full of water after 8 months including the summer and lots of airing out. Finally had to remove the foam and ring / dry it out. ------------------ TonyG@ProwlerOnline.com |

I believe older manual transmissions had a vent in the top, I would change it before driving just for safety sake. I would agree with others on unloading, but not to a friend. You might luck out but more than likely you will have electrical nightmare form now on. Or buy a crashed model and strip the wiring. ------------------ |

Ed - wasn't that picture taken down the street from you, where the sign says "Don't drive when flooded"? You need a homeowners association to teach.................... |

Al - how funny, I didn't even notice that. Is that your bomb shelter or the cat garage in the back yard? |

I hope that you can get all the water out. The reason I says this, is that back many years ago - when Fred and I where first married, we had an ancient and our car filled up with water. The car was NOT hurt, but every time we put on the brakes you could hear water moving back and forth. Nothing we did (including drilling holes) could get rid of the water. We finally sold the car to a dealer, THAT NEVER DROVE IT OR PUT ON THE BRAKES! So I wish you luck. I know you hate to get give up a car you like because of such a problem, but beware. Carol |

Butchcee, you have a yellow cat but a Mulholland House? What country do you live in? I noticed the traffic sign was little unusual as well as the 'ferrin" plates on the car. I saw a Woodward Intrepid this evening. All red except the driver's side doors. Looked pretty good and I think it was Number #1, (at least it was the first one I ever saw) |

Ken, what a shame! I hope that everyone is okay. I saw an article in the USA Today yesterday that talked about the flooding. They indicated that several people lost their lives. My daughter-in-law, who is from Blue Ash, has relatives in West Chester. As you know, we lived in Montgomery and I am having a hard time picturing your area under water!! Hopefully, things are okay now. Good luck with the car and hope that there isn't too much permanent damage. ------------------ Classic/Beautiful - I'm referring to the Cat! |

Ken, If you want to keep the car, keep it. I would suggest more research. Car insurance companies could probably point you in the right direction of who to talk to. Good luck. ------------------ |

Al - I might be there after Labor Day - get Orkin to start spraying now for those roaches///or did you mean those NYC rats, the size of cats??? I see, the cat sleeps inside with you and I get the old bomb shelter with the bugs. No wonder Andy avoids coming to see you........ Ed - Did you sign up the guy with the Woodward Intrepid to your club? It seems he will fit right in with you. Must have been a tired Taxi Intrepid, like the one you drive daily. Get him to join, so the club will have 8 members and you guys can sit and talk about changing the oil every 35,000 miles |

Try a "For Sale" sign ... and lots of Arm & Hammer in the interior ... not worth salvaging. |
