My son has a '92 Eclipse that we are getting ready to install a Street Weapon Drift body kit on. I am thinking about painting the whole car myself but it's been a long time. I've used Lacquer and Emron before but my last paint job was done about 15 years ago on a 1968 Camaro. I have a compressor and a Binks gun but I'm not familiar with the current paints. Any suggestions for someone painting a car in a garage (actually a large warehouse). Can the PPG base coat/clear coat be shot without a paint booth? Any help would be appreciated.

HI KEN ; MY NAME IS LARRY MEIER AND I OWN AUTOGHRAPHICS INC. A BODY REPAIR SHOP FOR THE LAST 25 YEARS AND ALL WE USE IS PPG ( DELTRON ACRYIC URATHANE ) .
YOU CAN PAINT IT WITHOUT A SPRAYBOOTH BUT IF YOU HAVE NO VENTILATION YOU WILL HAVE A NUMBER OF BAD THINGS THAT CAN HAPPEN TO YOU /
YOU WILL HAVE THE OVERSPRAY HANGING AROUND IN THE AIR THAT WILL DROP BACK ON TO YOUR FRESH PAINT AND GIVE IT A GRITTY LOOK AND OF COURSE THE MORE PAINT YOU PUT IN THE AIR THE HARDER IT WILL BE FOR YOU TO SEE THE SURFACE YOU ARE PAINTING .
YOU WILL NEED SOME VERY GOOD BREATHING RESPIRATORS ( 3M MAKES SOME VERY GOOD ONES )
AND BE SURE TO PURCHASE SOME PAINTING PAPER/DISPOSABLE SUITS TO KEEP YOU CLEAN AROUND THE PREPED CAR AND TO KEEP ALL OF THAT OVERSPRAY OFF YOU , IT REALLY STICKS.
YOU SHOULD ALSO PURCHASE SOME DISPOSABLE GLOVES AND NEW TACK RAGS AND BE SURE TO TACK OFF THE MASKING PAPER AS WELL AS THE SURFACE YOU ARE PAINTING .
IF YOU CAN, TRY AND DO YOUR PAINTING WITH AN HVLP SPRAY GUN.
KEN YOU REALLY NEED TO GET THE PAINT AWAY FROM YOU AND THE CAR FOR THE BEST RESULTS . I HOPE I HAVE HELPED YOU SOME .
LARRY

Hey now, a good idea is to run the tack rag across the flashed paint before you spray the clear coat if your not gonna spray it in a booth............this will get alot of the nibs out...............

Thanks guys for the suggestions. We got 2/3 of the body kit on today. Just have the rear to do tomorrow. Then a lot of glassing, filling and sanding. I'll have to think about doing the paint myself. This brings backs way too many memories of the Camaro restoration. Well.....off for a ride in the Kat.....I earned it today!
