CLASSIFIED AD TERMINOLOGY:

MUST SELL - before it blows up.

RUNS FINE - I was going to say "runs excellent" but I had a last minute attack of conscience.

NEEDS SOME BODY WORK - as side-swiped by a Winnebago.

WELL-MAINTAINED - I changed the oil occasionally.

LOOKS LIKE NEW - just don't try to drive it anywhere.

ALL ORIGINAL - I never had anything fixed, adjusted, or replaced.

LOADED WITH OPTIONS - each one more troublesome than the next.

NEVER SMOKED IN - unfortunately, that's the best thing I can say about it.

PROJECT CAR - doesn't run.

LOTS OF POTENTIAL - doesn't run.

NEEDS MINOR REPAIR - doesn't run.

Well.......No, Midlife Prowler.....now that I think about it, I have never bought a used car. I bought my first car after I graduated from high school. It was a maroon 1966 Chevy Malibu. I was going to buy a used Buick Skylark convertible, blue with a white top, but my dad wouldn't let me buy a used car. He wasn't a car guy (mechanically)and I guess he just didn't want me (at 17 years old) to have to deal with any problems.

Certainly have looked at enough used hot rods, though!

CJ,
I remember on one of your very first posts that you're
pretty mechanically inclined and you even own your own tool
chest. What lead you to become a grease monkey?

Well, I'm not anywhere near the skill level that you guys are. I can do pretty basic maintenance stuff. Pretty handy with tools, actually!

What lead me to that? Being married to Bob. When we got married, he was working as a parts guy at a Chevy dealer selling high-performance parts and engines. He used to build engines and do upgrades at home in the garage for extra money. As soon as he got home from work, people would be knocking at the door looking for help with their cars! We didn't get to finish too many meals! He'd be out there until all hours working. So, I decided that the only way I was going to get to spend any time with him was to join him in the garage. I watched, asked questions, listened, helped and learned a lot! I used to change the spark plugs on the Corvettes with a/c for him, because my hands were the only ones small enough to get the plugs in and out! So, I have spent 33 years learning from the best!! When he joined AMC, there was a period of 3 years or more that he was traveling constantly. Out on Mon. back on Fri. So, I had to learn to be self-sufficient being by myself with two kids. I learned to do most things with the car and around the house so that when he was home on the weekend, he didn't have to spend time catching up on chores. He was able to spend the time with his family.

I learned to love and appreciate cars the same as he did...but not as much as I love and appreciate him!!!
