Yet another paint question.

I’ve been pursuing paint options on bumpers and fender guard. I took the Kat to a body shop yesterday to get an estimate. They told me they can’t paint the fender guards as they are not a smooth surface. Is this guy correct or should I just go to someone else? I know Larry Mays has his painted as part of his custom pain job, but perhaps that’s different?

Sorry folks. I think I mislead you. When I said fender guards, I didn’t mean mud flaps. I was talking about the guards that’s on the front side of the rear fenders. Rock guards would that be a better term?

I've only had the car two months - I have the flaps on my car - untrimmed. I still have marks on the rear Fender protectors.... I would not recommend painting....

William Gallagher took his off his red. Look at his magic touch designs web site and click on my prowler. Looks real nice. This may be the way to go if you want it the same color as your car.

Bill,

you cab paint them. Mine have held up well. But I would remove and have clear 3M rock gaurd installed instead of painting.

They can be sanded smooth and painted. That is how mine was done. The right way would be to remove from the car, paint then reinstall. Being on dark blue the few rock chips will not show. I have only a few in mine with 13,000 miles since painting.

If you chrome plate them they will have to be bolted on some way. I saw CNOTE's and they looked really cool, but they are not sticking tight (top is pulling away)

I removed mine about a month after I got my Prowler.

I have driven without them for over 2 1/2 years and 30K+ miles with untrimmed front mud flaps and have had little trouble with rock chips on the rear fenders. I have had to repair a couple small chips in the rear fenders, but I would prefer to keep doing that than put the tacked-on black guards back on. If I were to do it over again, I would do like what Larry Mayes mentioned and put some clear 3M material on the rear fenders.

Rich,

Thanks for the heads up. I had exchanged a brief email with CNote before he headed off to CO. i'll check back with him to see what he finds.

Bill,

Sorry, the quote in a quote is causing me fits so I'll just post this.

Thanks for the update. With Rich's comment on CNote, choming may be out. That leaves painting and removing. I still like the idea of painting, however in the pinstipe blue as opposed to the Midnight blue. But so far, no one has liked that idea. That's for the words of experience to add to Larry's.

this would be the way to go but this stuff is hard to put on right with out leaving finger prints on it.
