I just purchased this off Ebay. I did not know if this was a recent release or an older release I had not seen before. I have yet to see them at Toys R Us. Anyone familiar with this diecast?

Hadn't seen it before. I'm fairly certain it's a new release.

Well 1997's didn't come in yellow! I haven't that particular one before either. Nice find.

New, just bought one from toys-r-us Monday.
They had one left, but the hood was ajar by the windshield, I haven't opened mine to see how the hood attaches.

If someone wants this I can check to see if they still have it, and you can have it at cost(21.74 w/tax). The box says 1 of 1650.

If you email me put prowler in the title line.

This is the concept version of the Prowler so the hood is hinged at the front and lifts up from the windshield toward the front of the car. The local Toy R Us around here suck now days in the die cast area. I probably paid too much on Ebay but at least I got one.

Sorry Rich,

If I had not seen it in the store, I would not have known whether it was old or new. Sometimes I also have to go to ebay because I can't find the item locally.

Here are the pictures I promised you Scott. You were the first to respond, it's yours if you still want it.
As Rich said above, the hood does open from the windshield side, the hood will not drop back into place. I can open the box if you want to insure the hood will close.

I also sent you an email with more details.

check out this one. Read it to the end. http://cgi.ebay.com/Ertl-American-Muscle-1997-Prowler-Rare-Chase-Limited-Ed_W0QQitemZ6990788247QQcategoryZ47188QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
It sold for $ 60 but it has a special paint job.
I went looking at our Toys R Us today. I found a few other things of interest.
I will post a picture later.

Yep Ed - I've got several of the yellow 1/64th Superbirds in the regular issue and White Lightning. I just received the red 1/18th scale TRU car (bought off Ebay).

For some reason the Toys-R-Us stores in our area are very slow in getting new releases in stock. Usually takes them 1-3 months once something first shows up on Ebay. I'm still waiting on the 1/18th scale TRU Superbird or Prowler to show up on the shelves down here.

Also, the yellow chrome chase car is very difficult to find and worth the additional cost to many collectors. They are usually limited to only 1% of the total production run.

Scott, we have 5 Toys R Us here and I hit all five today. Four of them had virtually none of the Prowlers or the other similar cars in the series. One store had a Mustang, a 58 or 59 Plymouth Belvedere, a lead sled, etc. I thought it was odd that one store had everything and the other stores had nothing. The clerks did not seem to know anything about the cars. They would just say, "everything we have is on the shelves" but there was nothing like it on the shelves.

The sticker says "Only at Toys R Us" but I have seen some nice similar cars at SAMS. They may be exactly the same, who knows.

Larry, there is a picture of it on this eBay sale thread. Not a very good picture, but a picture.

I stopped in one of the stores that I was in the other day and they had two of the Prowlers. I will wait a day or two and hit the other local stores hoping a chase car shows up at one of them.

Rich, I am very doubtful of finding even one but I will still check. I have never gotten a WHITE Lightning of the Wildcat. I must have found 100 of them but never a White one.
