Chappell Hill/Bluebonnet Cruise March 31, 2012

With the help of Angela ("ivegotsugar”), we have come up with a cruise for the Houston area prowler owners. Because I have no experience in organizing a cruise, if you have high expectations, this one may not be for you. But if you would like to see some bluebonnets (hopefully there will be some after the drought), have lunch, learn some Texas history, and enjoy some camaraderie in a relaxed atmosphere, then please consider this:

Meet in Chappell Hill at 10:00-10:15 at the Shell station/Burger King at
the northeast corner of 290 and FM 1155. Gas and restrooms available.

We will depart at 10:30 and go to Southern flyer restaurant at the
Brenham airport and have lunch.

After lunch, go to Overlook park at Lake Somerville. Pictures, etc. if
you want.

From Lake Somerville, to Independence, the birthplace of Baylor
University. Historical sites and remnants.

From Indepedence, to Washington on the Brazos, the birthplace of Texas.
Restrooms available, walking trails, museum, tours, etc.

Then back to Chappell Hill.

Total distance about 80-85 miles, expect to arrive back in Chappell Hill
about 4:15-4:30.

Rain date Sunday, April 1, 2012

If you are interested, please let us know. We need a rough estimate for the restaurant. You can either pm me “dru” or Angela “ivegotsugar”, or can respond here on the thread. Or you can send me an email at "dru@cebridge.net". Ultimately, I would like to get an email address from you as a map and schedule will be sent out soon. We just wanted to get the word out so that you can mark your calendars.

Some might ask why I, a novice in this group, am setting up a cruise.
Good question. Let me only say, ask George. But special thanks to Angela
for all of her time, help and advice. While the genesis for this started
a few months ago, with the recent passing of Fred, I would like to incorporate a tribute to him as well. Since I joined this forum in 2010, I never had the opportunity to meet
Fred personally, so please forward your suggestions on a tribute.
Thanks. Joe

Wish we could attend, but have already committed to a show that same day. Have been to the Magnolia Spring Fling for the last ten years, and bring the entire collection.

Sorry you can't make it Tom. You and your son Jason are always a pleasure to be around and a welcome addition to any cruise. The weekend of the 31st worked best, as the following weekend is Easter, and the next is tax weekend. I guess Mickey will have to step it up a notch in your absence. We have 7 or 8 confirmed so far, and the possibility of 2 more who are in the Houston area but not previously a part of the Houston area group or members of the POA. Any others interested, please let Angela or I know soon.

My wife, BeBe, and I are planning on it and I'll make sure to bring the extra sensors and socket wrench...LOL!

Thanks to Angela, Joe, & Mickey for putting the BB Cruise together...it will be lots of fun and fellowship for all the Texas Owners to get together.

Bluebonnets are expected to be good this year with the rains we've had. Might be an early season for them. This is going to be a good one folks.

To my Prowler friends Arthur, Faye and I are planning on attending. Arthur will be in his Prowler and I will be in my Saleen. But as I've done in the pass when cruising with the Prowlers I will bring up the rear. Even though we don't have our Prowler, we still have all of our Prowler friends that we have known since the Fred & Debbie cruise days. It's going on 12 yrs now. Will be glad to see U all again.

Genotex, thanks for posting the picture. Looked like a great turnout. When I was there 3 or 4 weeks ago scouting out the route, it did not look near as good with only 1 prowler parked there.
So far 9 confirmed. Still have not gotten a confirmation on the 2 new guys yet. If they do make it though, I will be sure and tell them if George asks if they want to help him set something up, act like they are deaf mutes and walk away!!!!
I am almost finished on the schedule and map and hope to get the email to Mickey soon so he can disseminate. Thanks to everyone who has responded.
As a reminder, if anyone has a suggestion on a tribute to Fred, please let Angela or I know.

To those on Mickey’s email list, he sent out a more detailed itinerary with driving instructions and maps for me today (I only sent him the attachment, funny boy provided the rest again.). Be sure to open the attachment, which is where they are, the itinerary on page 1, the maps on page 2, so make sure you scroll down. It was written on Microsoft Word, so if you can’t open it, let me know and I will get one to you. (I also learned 2 things, first you can’t copy and paste a word document that includes a picture onto an email, the pictures will only be blank. Second, the little green lines under all the grammatical errors that I ignored are present when sent as an attachment. Sorry about all the green line distractions.) The message also includes my contact information if you need anything. Finally, click on the links for Independence and Washington on the Brazos if you have time, there is some interesting information there. Thanks to Mickey for sending it out.

I am also attaching the maps to this message in case you didn’t see them. We’re looking forward to seeing all those that will be able to attend. Ten so far, option on one more.

The maps look clearer here than in the email. At least on mine it was a little blury. I hope it prints out good. I re-sent the first email again with the attachment to keep it all together and to avoid resending it out to one or two that gave their email address after it was initially sent out. It was a good idea posting it here as well. And now I finally know what's going on with all those emails I get with just grey pictures. We've had several new members send me their email address to be included in our cruises. I hope they can make it out and be welcomed to the group. I think this will be a good year for the bluebonnets with the rains we've had. Let's just hope that the weather holds for us this year. It should since "Buckets" Randall will be AWOL. (Don't fret Tom. I saw the trophys and they got your name spelled right.) I think Joe and Angela have done a good job putting this together and I'm anxious to see everyone again. The month is going to drag on for sure.

Eleven cars committed so far, one or two other possibilities. To those that have committed, I or SugarProwler will send out another copy of the itinerary (without the green lines) and a larger view of the maps as an attachment in the next couple of days to your email address. Hopefully it will print out a little better. If anyone else is interested, please let us know soon. As a reminder, anyone with any other recommendations regarding a tribute to Fred, please send your suggestions. Looking forward to seeing everyone. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. Thanks again to Angela and Mickey.

Angela and I sent out a larger map this week to all the people that have confirmed so far. If you did not receive one, please let me know. Hopefully it will print better. Also, the Houston Chronicle today had a front page article stating the bluebonnet season this year is expected to be one of the best. And I looked at a long range forecast and it said very little chance of rain. Of course, all those that live around here know, a forecast even for the same day has a 50% chance of being wrong. Hopefully the Prowler Gods will smile upon us.

I'll be there in Fred's car. My prowler will also be there. There will either be two or three people, will let you know later if you need a head count. Thanks for honoring Fred with this event. (And thanks Don for giving me the heads up.)

Accuweather has been showing the 31st as a rain date, and if that is going to hold, we will be available for the rain date of April 1, in hopes that it doesn't rain then too!

I cant believe I am saying that I don't want any more rain, but with the flooding we had this morning, I am done! Two months ago the lake was dry, now my whole place is under water!

Ahh, Texas!

Tom, you are welcome at any time. Part of me says I hope it is a rain date so that you all can make it. But it is always a hassle when your plans have to be changed. In spite of it being the fourth wettest year to date on record in the Houston area, here on Lake Conroe the level is up about 5 feet so far since January, but still have another 3 1/2 feet to go. So send some of the water over here.

One more week to go. Everyone gather your tools and spare emergency parts and put them in your car. I need to do the same myself. Plan your route and set your leave time. Gas up. Wear the colors black and red if you have it to wear. A black and red (I wrote black and white in the email - sorry) hat would suffice. Don't forget suntan/block lotion and sunglasses, and hats of some kind for those of you that are taller than your hair. Shaving is optional.
If anyone wants to meet me at the usual local meet spot at the Chevron at 290/1960, I will plan on meeting you there if you let me know. I will plan on about 1 hour from there to the formal meet spot discussed in prior emails at 10am in Chappel Hill, so will plan to leave the Chevron at about 9am. Again, please let me know to meet you there if you wish to katavan to the main meet spot. In case you need to reach me en route, my cell number is in the email I just sent to everyone.
Be sure to check your email the night before the run in case there are any weather issues. See ya there!

So far looks like a 10-20% chance of rain. So while there is a small chance we may have a shower or two, as long as the chance of rain is 30% or less, the trip is a go. If the chances of rain go up significantly, I will post here tomorrow night. Look forward to seeing you all there.
