Karen & I will be taking a side trip during the day on Thursday, Oct. 8th, to Bryson City. We’re taking the “Tuckasegee River Excursion” on the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad which travels 32 miles roundtrip from Bryson City to Dillsboro and back. The train leaves Bryson City at 12:00 Noon and returns at 4:00 PM with 1 & 1/2 hour layover in the town of Dillsboro where we will have lunch. It’s a 1 & ½ hour ride from Pigeon Forge to Bryson City.

We’ll leave Pigeon Forge at 8:30 AM for trip to Bryson City touring the Museum before boarding train. For the return trip to Pigeon Forge, we’ll leave “PRONTO” to get back for 6:30 PM BBQ. I looked into a group rate (which is 10% of list price) and it required full payment one month in advance and some other restrictions. So, I decided to book individual rate and leave it up each individual to book their own reservation if they wanted to follow along.

If you would like to join Karen & I, please book your Individual Reservations with the Railroad either through their web site or call 800-872-4681 (option #1). I’m booking the $65 per person rate for their Crown Coach Car (climate controlled & it includes bathroom and the lady told me it was more comfortable than their Standard $53 Car). Also, you can walk out to the open car for pics. If you would like to ride on the same car, when making your reservation, ask for Laddie Roussel Resevation # 447479 on Thursday, Oct. 8th and they will try to book us all on same car.

If you book the train ride, please reply to this thread or send PM or Email to me. Also, you may book another rate car or take one of the other excursions and that is fine & up to you…

A group of Prowler owners took one of these trips a year or so ago. I recommend the open cars. You have more freedom to move around and the view is much better.

I'm glad you posted this side trip. I was looking at the same train excursion and a day to go and do it. I'll be there with a few friends I hope.

The trains are VERY clean and it is a very nice trip. We were in the open car and enjoyed it a lot.
The BBQ dinner is scheduled for 6:30 but we will make sure that you get fed. If a large amount of folks decide to go on the r.r. excursion, I will have them delay the dinner until 7 PM so you have time, for sure. There will be at least 175 folks eating so it will take awhile for everyone to get their food, I am sure.
You won't go hungry.
Thanks for doing this side trip Laddie. It is really a nice trip. We did the one that went West, this one heads East but it is the same company. I recommend it if you like this type of thing.

Laddie - We called today and made reservations for the 3 of us for the train ride. We did refer to your confirmation number. We haven't seen anyone for so long - this will be a nice Prowler event and Ron has wanted to do a train ride for some time. Thanks for planning this all - Ed, Laddie and everyone who helped. Laddie, we got our reservations today. We used your # and the lady said that so far there is still room in your car. However she said it is filling up with Prowler people. Thanks for getting this started. Gene & Dixie Snyder - Peoria, Ill. "Firecat"

Hi Laddie, Linda and I will be joining you. When I made the reservation she said there was only one "crown coach" car. Ken & Linda Nelson

We will be arriving on Monday because we can't get our animals boarded until Monday morning.

FYI. I had this PM this morning from someone booking the train ride.

"We made our reservation for the Oct 8th train trip.

The lady advised that if anyone else is planning to join the group in your crown coach car, they better do so really soon; this car is nearly full."

I called this morning for a reservation for the crown car and it is full (holds 50). There are openings available in the open car.

I booked 2 seats on the regular coach car.

We rode in the open car and we really liked it. If the weather is nice, the open car is ideal for looking at the scenery. Dress appropriately and you would be happy with it.

When you say open car, did you maybe mean flat car?
If so we would not need to open a window to get you off the train.

Andria I'm not sure which car it is. I just asked them to make sure I'm not on same car as you. They said it was getting hard to do as many others have asked for same thing.

I thought we were car pooling on this trip.....I guess everyone will have to take their own car then.
Can we at least travel in a group (Posse)?
