Does anyone have experience with the add on hood strut that is sold on the Prowler store web site? Bottom mounting point looks secure but I am afraid of distorting the hood or damaging the spot welds because the bracket that attaches to the hood was not designed to take the stress of a hood strut. if you have a 99 and up you can use the lst hood struts with no problem.it will not damage the hood.the mtg ball for the upper is part of the hood hinge.lst is the only way to go,and there warranty is for 3 yrs. ------------------ |

I purchased them back in May and the clamps came off both of them. I don't know if I didn't slide them down far enough to lock them in place or what. Anyone have a problem like this? I just got them in May '12 and I just wrote a note to the company to ask for assistance. |

I've had mine for years now. I did have that problem. As I remember it was because I had them on backwards. I talked to LST about it, and they were the ones that suggested that was the problem. It was... |

have never seen or heard of a problem with the ends.they are replaceable.hook onto the ball stud and slide the lock in place.the upper ends you pull the small lock cap almost all the way out.snap on ball stue and tap lock intp place.both ends have locks. ------------------ This message has been edited by catfish on 08-04-2012 at 07:08 PM |

I don't remember all the details Catfish - it was a few years ago - but when I talked to LST he said I needed to turn the tip the other way and then the lock would snap into place. I did, and it did. Not too many options on install, so a little experimentation should do the trick. |

SHOW CAR Prowler Enthusiast From:Menasha, WI |
I agree with enzvoy and catfish: Go with LST (Lift Support Technologies) in Canada: Good company; good product. I really like my Prowler, which I've owned since new. However, I did not like nearly being injured severely because of its OEM hood struts, which unexpectedly failed at only 3,200 miles on my Prowler's odometer. Yes, I could excuse that IF I were always raising the hood to see if the car's engine was still there. However, my Prowler always started when I turned its key, so I inferred --- as might Sherlock Holmes --- that the engine in my Prowler was still there. Accordingly, I felt no need to confirm that by continually opening the car's hood, and thereby stressing its ratty OEM hood supports. I suggest you not even bother to see if you can get OEM hood struts, which in my opinion, are an inherently inferior design, having failed at only 3,200 miles on my Prowler. Instead, as enzvoy and catfish have suggested, go with LST (Lift Support Technologies) in Canada: Good company; good product. |
