I know this has been discussed before... I have a whine noise coming from my speakers. What is/was the fix?

Thanks, Jack

I have the same thing and i know that people have tried different things, but none of them worked for me. Maybe someone has found the fix , that can help us both.

could be a number of things.speakers, bad ground, bad radio, bad wiring.is the antenna plugged all the way in.it needs to be diagnosed to find the problem.hopefully you have a good stereo shop in your area, maybe they can help.a prowler has 6 to 7 ground wires on the wire harness, have the grounds ever been unbolted and cleaned.i do believe theres also a ground on the back of the radio.there is also a antenna module thats mounted under upper rs of dash, that helps boost the signal, since the antenns is in the w/s.

On your positive cable I think you have a large wire and a small wire... Check/clean connection both ends of the small wire. Make sure connection is tight on the battery terminal with a clean terminal. I posted some details on a thread on everyone's problem issues a few years back but don't know what the thread is titled at the moment.

http://www.prowleronline.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/008396-3.html

12/98 2927 miles - Radio hum that gets louder with increased RPM - Warranty replaced amp. Still hums.
5/99 3058 miles - radio still buzzing. TSB's checked and nothing there. Chrysler was notified and said they are researching the problem and will get back to me. (They never did.) Was also told that Chrysler was aware of the problem, and that it also exists on the Vipers. (I had the same problem with my '70 cutlas and fixed it myself. It was just a bad ground on the battery cable.) Still waiting to hear back from Chrysler on this as of 8/03.

You can't leave us hanging. Was it the battery wire? That's why I asked about the changing frequency with acceleration

Yes it does change frequency Aquaman.

The two red wires on the batterie cable are wrapped in a kinda rubber insulating coating. Not sure I want to break the seal , to clean the the small wire .
Any thoughts , Tks

No need to break the insulator. Just make sure it's not coming out of the connection and isn't rubbing on the frame and that you have a clean post. I think the cable goes to the power distribution box behind the left side panel. Check/clean the connection there. Also check/clean both ends of the negative cable/battery post.

I had this problem in the past, however mine was the constant whine except when the trans was in R or 2nd gear. I tried a bunch of things all at once and it went away, but I was not sure which fixed it. Tonight I went out to finish the prep for Asheville and started it up and the same noise was back. I naturally started with the grounds related to the tranny with no improvement. Next was the wires at the back of the radio and, BINGO, that was it. Didn't even take the radio out but just reached up from below and behind from the drivers side with the car running and the radio on. Found the connector and wiggled and pushed and immediately the noise stopped. Hope that solves the problem at least until I get back from Asheville.
