I recently drove the kat and noticed that the cd changer would play for about 20 seconds, then cut off and not play anymore as if the cd wasn't reading. It did that for all the cd's in the changer. Does anybody have any ideas?

Try using one of those CD cleaner discs.
I had problems with mine shortly after I bought the car, the prior owner never used the CD player in the four or five years he owned the car.
I had to run it through five or six times before things started working again.
I keep it in the car now just in case.

It looks like a regular CD with little brushes attached to it in several spots. I initially thought it was a waste of money but it worked in my situation.

Catfish, I'm not getting any reading on the radio display. I'm going to buy the cd cleaner this weekend and see what happens.

When I was having problems, I was at least getting a "NO DISC" displayed. Does the radio work properly but nothing with the CD changer, or does nothing work?

If nothing works, the CD cleaner disc would probably be a waste of money at this point.

My cd changer works ok as long as there is a limit of three cd's init. If i load it full, player will usually play first two cd's and then go to error, or no-disc readings. Or if i try to bump to next cd, it will go to error. I tried working with it to no avail. So now i limit load to three cd's, and it keeps working.

I been meaning to post this a while back. I recently posted that my cd player was cutting off after about 20 seconds of playing and that my engine was making a weird noise. Several post stated that it was my clutch in the alternator. (I had to jump start the car several times, thinking because the battery went dead because of non use) I had two bolts machine drilled into the pulley and it works fine now. I also bought a new battery and the cd player works fine now. I was told by a mechanic that the cd player was probably not working because the car was running on pure battery and was not sending enough current to the cd player. I thought I post this just in case somebody else has this problem.

Someone I know got a CD cleaner disk with the brushes on it but in fine print on the box it says not to use in a car cd player. Why would this be? Or is that just a standard note but would be ok to use in the car? I thought it may have something to do with the car player having the "bounce adjuster" and the brushes may do something to that. They are getting NO CD message, yet they know it's full. It will eject fine, just no sound from the CD.

The CD cleaner I bought years ago had the little brushes on it. I do not recall any warning but it seemed to work for me and have had no issues since.
