I just received a couple of new center caps. I tried to install them yesterday but they did not want to just "pop" right back in. Are there any tips for putting these on? I was afraid to force them thinking that might brake the tabs off the new caps. Is it safe to use a flat tip screwdriver to push the tabs in? Should I just push hard on the centers and force them straight in or should I work my way around the perimeter while using a screwdriver to push the tabs in?

Thanks,

Frank

No screwdriver use!

Put some liquid dish soap on the inside tab edges. Set cap into place > center it up > and push one spoke firmly with your fingers, while using the palm of your hand to give the dead center of the cap a firm, hard smack.

I have also used a rubber mallet, but you can't kill it with excessive pressure.

I am sure others will provide their own methods.....

Frank,

Make sure you have your garage door closed prior to proceeding! Turn the Prowler on it's side.....two wheels on the floor. With the other two wheels & center hup-caps facing upwards, put a can of Tuna (brand doesn't matter)on top of each one of the exposed hub-caps and then lay a Cinder Block on top of each can of Tuna. Within 20 seconds, you'll hear each hub-cap snap into place. Remove Cinder Blocks and cans of Tuna......flip Prowler on it's other side and repeat aforementined process.

PS....hope your enjoying your new Prowler.

Thanks for the tip. I used the soap and was able to pop them both in without having to push to hard. Hopefully all the tabs survived. Seems like a poor design to me.

You can tell if a tab is broken just by pushing on the center cap. If one is broken, it will rattle slightly or be slightly loose.

Ed,

I have one "point" on each that does not fit tight so it is quite possible that I broke one tab on each cap. The caps on the rear wheels (which I have never removed) seem to fit tight on all 5 of the "points". Of course it's entirely possible that the rear caps have been siliconed on like one of the old front caps had been.

Thanks,

Frank
