To get the window out, do we need to unscrew/unbolt all of these points in the picture?

Also, seems kinda tight, how does the window assembly come out? From the top of the door?

The glass comes out through the top of the door. The motor and track assembly comes out through the large hole in the door panel. It's a little tricky, but it does come out.

I had to fix one on Perl, did a search and found this post and a couple more also.
This one helped me a lot.
Mine had just pulled out of the sockett.
All I did was clean it good and reglue it.
This info is a big help.
Thanks from me also.

So do I glue/reinforce this together or what? Looks too clean to be a broken piece. What's the final word?

My final analysis on the seperation posted in the picture, is that it was broken. Smooth as it may have been, it was broken.

Do not use any glue on the break. It might get into the cable and can only cause binding problems at best. Just follow the instructions for fixing the regulators with the tape and hose clamps and everything will work out fine. Also, the cue tip pieces are not necessary for a good fix.

Great Info!
I was able to fix my window for as little as $20.00 in parts and about three hours of my time

Thanks again!

Last weekend at a car show when I went to raise the driver's side window it started to lift at the front only. I stopped at that point and dropped the window to retry to raise it again......same thing happened. I was finally only able to fully raise the window by holding the rear of the glass and pulling it with my hand as I operated the power switch. I've repeated this a couple of times since (the front of the glass seems to want to work correctly but the back, while it drops O.K., needs a manual assist to fully raise) and am wondering if what I'm dealing with is the problem outlined in this forum. Will I do additional damage if I continue to do this before fixing the problem?

Yes and Yes. You can buy new and improved regulators from Tom Mills or fix the ones you have.

I wouldn't chance it, I read somewhere that a window once shattered after the regulator broke. I lost one a week or so after
I bought the car and used the mills conversion on both sides just to be safe well worth the cost.

Thanks for your input beachcat, garysss, sabyby and catfish. Now that I know what I'm facing I think I'll try the backyard fix following the steps and pictures posted by Kraut and onecatnodog.....both pictorial guides are exceptional.

Fixed mine 4 or 5 years ago, before Tom Mills replacement was available, using Kraut's instructions. Both of mine were broken, only 1 was causing significant movement problems. His instructions were spot on. Still going strong. I never did thank him for his detailed post and instructions, but will do so now. His instructions remain a viable solution. Thanks again to Kraut.

I did mine last year before I had a problem. Turns out the drivers side was already broke and I didn't even know it. I did both of mine and have had no problem and like others I forgot to thank Kraut for the detailed information. While you are in the doors, go ahead and replace the speakers and save yourself some work. Those door panel clips and the trim around the door handle will thank you, they break easy.

Mine has been doing exactly that for three years now. I've just been too busy/lazy to do the repair. Plus I was a little intimidated that it might be harder than it sounds. So I've been helping it up. No apparent further damage. I'd read about the 'farmer fix' and planned to do it one day. Thanks for the pics and detailed instructions; i'm not so intimidated anymore.

the hardest part is getting the reg. out and back in the access hole in the dr,could be larger.use a marker to mark the adjustments inside the dr.it will save you alot of adjusting on the reinstall.mark the frt to rear on the gold plate and the in out on the lower adj.screws.

My turn, drivers side, greatly appreciated info, will post results. Also, just did the magnet center cap fix, love it!, holds more firmly than original and pops off easily with the half clothespin.

Passenger side. I hated to go back in after I soundproofed both doors but had to do it. Thank you Kraut! If you ever get to San Antonio in November I invite you to Wurstfest! Prosit!

Finished the regulator fix, thank you Kraut! It is working nicely again and for a total of about $12. My only advice to those attempting is to take your time removing the regulator. Mine broke at the same spot as Krauts but I ended up snapping the other end taking it out thinking it was more flexible than it was. I ended up having to do both sides of tubing but may have anyway since It was already out.

I just finished performing the "Kraut maneuver" and it worked great. A bit tedious putting the plastic tubing sleeve over the double sided tape but a great and cheap solution. Driver side only raised on the front. Broken at 2 places.

My passenger side was broken already but not giving problems yet - still fixed it since maybe it was just a matter of time.

Thank you Kraut !!!

While you have the door torn apart is a good time to replace your speakers also. jmo
