I have an early production model black 2000. A while back I took it in to have the trunk realigned and some paint scraps from the misalignment taken care of. The dealership took care of the trunk, but not the paint. They said because I had blue magic marker on most of my welds, that the car was in an accident. I bought it from a private party with 195 miles on it - garaged and was pretty darn perfect (3 months old). Has anyone heard of this on other Prowlers coming off the line?

John - doesn't sound right to me,,,,,think I'd take to another place for the paint work. The colored marker spots were probably factory visual check marks.

I thought that it might be a QC check of some sort considering the frame problem of the 99's. Thanks for the post.

Every weld I can see on my frame is marked with a blue mark. I bought mine new Dec. 8th '01. These are QC markes. I don't know if each weld was X-Rayed, but I think these marks were made after checking the welds to make sure all welds were checked.

johnr: Like Kelley all of my welds on my 2000 are marked in blue as well. I was told these were done by the inspectors when they checked the welds at the assembly plant. Tami

The frames are marked from the factory from what I can tell they do it for weld inspection and jig position. Tell the dealer they are full of crap.

I agree with Bob - they are full of it! Mine has never been wrecked and there is a blue mark on every weld.

The day I brought GRROWL, I showed it to a friend who owns a welding shop. He crawled all over AND UNDER the car and specifically remarked, "Wow, Look at all of those aluminum weld inspection marks. DON'T POLISH THEM OFF, it will reduce the value of the car".

FWIW.

I would like to use another dealer, but even with paperwork in hand I am afraid another dealer will not honor the priors excuse. The scratches on the back by the trunk aren't terrible, but I know they are there and your eye always wanders to things like that. Thanks for everyone's support. I will report back later with my success or tale of woe.

Johnr,
First of all I really don't think that dealer knew that he was looking at a "Hand Built" Prowler which explains the Blue marker.
Also...what color are the scratches you are mentioning? White? They could just be scratches on the surface of the clearcoat which means that they can be buffed out.
Good luck and have a good weekend!

When I was searching to buy a Prowler I used an inspection company to look over a used Prowler for me.

The inspector told me that all Prowlers had a blue mark on frame welds for QC and if there was not a blue mark it was a sign that the frame had probably been damaged and rewelded.
