UPS is OUR shipper of choice...worst luck we ever had with the whole company who lied both to us & our banker,,,,DHL!
We still had to pay $50 bucks to have documents shipped that NEVER reached their Destination! Despicable-Horrid-Losers

The company I work for has been instructing all operations to use UPS for all small box shipments within North America... They have been screwing up nearly every shipment... Its hard to believe they take $100 million from our company each year... I refuse to use them and pay twice as much with other couriers but the customers are happy but thats what business is all about.. yes Jan, they suck hard...

The UPS guy in our neighborhood does an excellent job. He is very polite and packages always arrive on time. I really don't think UPS knows he might be under age.

I guess I am lucky living in the Midwest. I have a great mail carrier and the UPS guys and Fed-Ex guys all seem to do a very good job. I can't gripe about any of them. It could be that conservative midwesterners are glad to have a job and do it conscientiously.

I've started using the Postal Service flat rate boxes they have been advertising. The mail lady takes them from my doorstep and has the Post Office put on their required stamp for packages over 13 ounces.

Shipping rates are cheap and all packages are arriving in 2 or 3 days, clear across country, as this is priority mail. You can ship a very heavy old ford water pump for $13.95.

So far so good anyway. As far as my inbound packages are concerned, I note more shipments are arriving this way also.

I used to work for an airfreight company. I was amazed more packages didn't get damaged. This is how many times one package was handled.
1.package is picked up at shippers door

2.Driver unloads package at local dock.

3. Package is loaded onto airport truck

4. package is unloaded at airport dock

5. package is loaded onto cart

6. package is loaded onto plane

7. package arrives at hub and is unloaded to cart

8. package is unloaded at sort room

9. package is loaded back on cart

10. package is loaded on plane

11. package is loaded on cart at destination airport

12. package is unloaded in airport warehouse

13. package is loaded onto shuttle truck

14. package is unloaded onto company dock

15. package is loaded onto delivery truck

16. package is delivered to consignee

In this example all of the above steps are done by hand, no mechanical sorts were used.

As a USPS employee I have seen the way packages are handled in person. I can say that UPS, FEDEX and all other shippers do the same thing. The package is loaded at the drop off, counter or pickup into large shipping containers. Usually the heavier and larger ones are put on the bottom. When the container gets to the hub, the whole container is up-ended and the parcels, (packages) are dumped on the working conveyor belts. This up-ends the heavier ones on top of the smaller possibly not as well packaged ones causing damage. All the shippers have damage. That is why most have a $100 built in insurance cost in their price. The USPS makes you buy the insurance additionally which is usually less than the other shippers. No one has a monopoly on undamaged parcels and that is a fact.

Hopefully things are going to get better after the 1st of the year.......FedEx and UPS will be merging effective January 9th, 2010. You'll be able to buy public stocks as well with the new company. Quite possibly both corporations can learn from each other....the do's & don'ts.....the good....the bad and so forth! I am somewhat concerned though with their new company name....FEDUPS!!

Wish our UPS driver looked like that.

We only use UPS for our shipments. Ya we've had our share of problems but they have always made good on them. Our early day we used DHL and everyother package was getting destroyed.

I have had very poor service with UPS as well. I had words with the local delivery person about lawn damage caused while backing down the street, and he has been flicking his cig butts in my front yard since. No one in mgt. seems to give a hoot.

Never had any problems with UPS. Just want to pass on a note about the insurance purchased from UPS by the sender, it is useless if the packaging is BAD. I recently purchased an Air Patrol from someone via this site and it was damaged during shipment. The packaging was so terrible UPS denied the claim. This was a purple painted, "never installed" Air Patrol! Now it is disassembled with fiberglass repairs and will need repainting, so much for the GOOD DEAL! Bottom line is if you are sending something and purchase insurance but package the item like crap save your money because the insurance is useless. Again I have no problem with UPS, in my case it was STUPIDITY and IGNORANCE from a fellow POA member!
