If the story wasn't important, why would NBC NEWS air it?

Does anyone here live in inner Detroit proper? Probably not.

Posted in the POLITICAL forum because it represents the 'decay' of a once outstanding city due to its political leadership, IE, Liberal, thieving, thug, Democrats over decades of corruption. Can anyone argue against that? Or is 'spin' the way to deflect the cause?

Take the story for what it IS, and no more. Most readers here understand enough to know that all of Michigan is not like Detroit. Good thing, huh.. Who wants to live in that inferno of filth and destruction? Much like comparing living in some of the boroughs of N.Y.City, and comparing that to beautiful upstate New York.... We get it..

IMPORTED from DETROIT? Maybe Detroit needs to import some new fire trucks, additional firefighters,,,,and clearly some new political leaders to turn that 'city' around? Absolute decline during the past 50 years, is not the way a major city wants to be showcased.

Just one observation from watching the news

That old adage applies here. . . "there are two sides to every story" . . .we don't always get the truth from the media. . . .

One of my favorite rants...the liberal controlled media...television

news...newspapers...magazines...radio...all continue to show 12 year old Trayvon...NOT 17 year old Trayvon...they continue to show the 5 year old picture BECAUSE it helps to cement in your mind the little, cute, hoodie wearing youngster who was stalked by this monster. In reality.."little Trayvon"...at the time of his death...stood almost 6'2" tall...weighed 175 muscular pounds...had numerous run ins with authorities (both at school and local police)...had been stopped and almost arrested two days before his death for...smacking a bus driver in the face...because the driver refused to let him ride for free...he was released because the driver was told not to press charges by the bus company and to continue on his route. When "little Trayvon" was suspended at school...it was not only because he tried to bring a little marijuana in with him...he was in possession of wedding rings and other jewelry...watches etc. that he said he "found" along with a large screwdriver...while on the way to school that day...the jewelry was turned over to the Police by the school. I am not trying to say this was a good shooting...I am not trying to say this kid deserved to die...I am saying...the media in the USA is controlled by liberals who twist and distort what you see and hear in order for you to see things their way. Not a single paper has printed RECENT photos of this kid...because...it would not keep your interest in this case... Not a single paper will admit that this kid was a marijuana dealer...his friends on facebook all say he had the "best plants"...not a single paper will show you any of his recent photos where he shows off a mouthful of gold teeth....all of his tattoos...not a single paper will tell the news like it really is....and NOT how they want you to think it is...

President King Obama...looked at the FIVE year old photo the media chose to show the Nation...and said..."If I had a son...he would look like Trayvon"

So from that comment...should I assume you did not bother to look for the facts in this shooting..or should I assume you want a son who is a 17 year old drug dealing, gold teeth wearing
thug whose name on one of his facebook profiles was "wild nigga"...who 'finds" jewelry and burglary tools on the way to school ?

A fair and impartial news media in the USA ? One that does not follow the liberal agenda? Is NOT looking to further divide this already fractured Nation? Excuse me...I need to vomit.

The slogan the news media in the USA should adopt is... "The truth...as WE see it !"

I KNOW it says states. My point was that the states list shows that there is a lot of crime everywhere....whether it is one city or multiple cities in a state that affects the crime problem. Michigan is not the only state with a crime problem. You all don't live here anyway, so why is there so much bashing of Detroit all the time?

It's well-known that gun violence is an issue for many inner cities across the U.S. But Chicago, in particular, has the most alarming rates, almost double that of New York City.

Since 2008, 80 percent of the 530 young people under the age of 21 felled by gun violence lived in the city's South, Southwest and West sides, which are heavily populated with African-Americans and Latinos. Ironically, only one-third of the city's population lives in these areas. Englewood, an area in the city's South Side, stood out the most. Their murder rate is five times that of the rest of the city.
The Chicago Reporter, which is publishing a three-part series about how this crisis is contributing to the loss of a generation, writes:

Much attention has been paid to the crisis. Community groups have held countless marches, candlelight vigils and events featuring empty desks signifying slain students.

After Christian Fenger Academy High School student Derrion Albert was beaten to death in September 2009, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan visited Chicago and pledged to address youth violence, with Duncan calling Albert’s death “a line in the sand.” They announced a $500,000 grant to restore a peaceful environment at Fenger. Yet the drumbeat of violence continued, with 218 student shootings and 27 student deaths reported during the ensuing school year, according to media reports quoting then-[Chicago Public Schools] CEO Ron Huberman.

And while the framing of violence suffered by Chicago public school students has focused much of the attention — and resources — on that population. The most dangerous time for young people in Chicago may be the first few years after high school. Since 2008, a total of 247 young people between the ages of 18 and 20 have been murdered in Chicago, nearly as many as the 286 under the age of 18 who’ve been killed during that span ….

Gun violence and homicides not only impact the health and lives of the victims, but also the physiological health of these victims' loved ones and other community members.

Each death or serious injury also causes wide-ranging ripple effects on friends and family members who are left with the psychological burden of witnessing violence. Studies strongly suggest that when young people live in neighborhoods plagued by violence, even when they don’t directly suffer violence, they are considerably more likely to suffer from post‐traumatic stress, depression and anxiety, and are more prone to behavioral problems and academic underachievement.

In other homicide-related news, an annual report found that the state of Missouri leads the nation with the highest Black homicide rates for the second year in a row. The study, which omitted data from the state of Florida and only included data from a few cities in Illinois, found that Missouri's rate of 34.72 homicides per 100,000 Black residents nearly doubles the overall national rate of 17.90. For whites, a paltry 2.92 homicide rate exists nationwide.

Other cities topping the list were Michigan, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Indiana, Tennessee, Wisconsin, California and Nevada.
