I saw a picture in either Motor Trend or C&D recently that was really interesting. It was a Volvo concept car that looked so much like a Prowler you would have to look again to make sure it wasn't a Prowler. They didn't say one way or the other if they were serious about building a production model, but I doubt they would. Volvo |

That Volvo has been posted on this website a couple of times. You can do a search and bring up the picture, I am sure. |

It wasn't a concept by Volvo. Maybe a couple of their engineers built it as a project but, I'm almost positive it was just regular folk. In any event, it wasn't built by Volvo and they have no intention to build it. From what I read in the article. |

Maybe CJ can verify the true number, but with about 200 to 250 new Prowlers unsold in dealer inventory, I doubt anyone at DCX will suggest to bring it back. Ever. If they do anything they might reuse the name, but the car would be completely new and redesigned. (like old T-Bird versus new T-Bird). I'd bet a paycheck the name and design of Prowler has fulfilled it's intended function at DCX and will be retired into history. That is, until our kids get the nostalgia bug and they bring something back to let them "relive" some of their youth. Crossfire convertible looks like a good offering now. This may stimulate some Prowler trade-ins??

You are right Kevina. Actually, there was something like 5-600 at dealers when production offically ended. I think another detractor in bringing it back was that all the tooling for the car (or most of it) was built to last for a build of 10-15,000 units, unlike regular production units. This was something like "temporary tooling" (for lack of a better word). They'd probably have to completely retool making it even more costly to bring back. Of course, if they do, I hope the first color is high-voltage blue and they only make a few thousand of them This message has been edited by YellowFever on 01-27-2004 at 01:40 PM |

Sorry, Nope!!! Prowler was never going to have more than a five year build life and they ended up canceling it early...besides....couldn't top what we already have. My husband says that someday the Prowler will be worth a lot.....it's a legend in auto history!!! Kevina is correct, there's only about 200-250 left on my unsold new Prowler list. Get them while you can!!!! |

While watching Barrett jackson, Brock Yates had an interesting comment...he basically wondered if any (domestic?) cars are true rare collectibles that are less than 25 years old. he could only come up with 2 possibilities, one of them the Buick Grand National, and the other was the ZR1. I think he was looking at lowest volume production. Prowler needs 15-20 more years....? |

Here's my theory. The market will drastically change for the better as soon as two things happen.... 1) The nationwide dealer inventory must reach around 30-50. At this point, those dealers will have held them for ??? years and will want a BIG premium for those "LAST PROWLERS". This is the first step. 2) About 300-400 More Prowlers must be destroyed/stolen/damaged/crashed/wrecked...well you get the idea. At the current pace my guess is, we are losing 28-35 Prowlers per year (I swagged it....who knows what the real number is.) Now the million Dollar question when will both of these things happen and the market change? My guess.......5 to 6 years! Then the fun begins. ------------------ |

Problem is that the dealers are not going to give those last cars away and that inventory will keep the price of used kats at their present level. I agree that the value will increase but not for at least ten or more years. I don't really care as mine isn't going anywhere anytime soon. |

Its way to early for out the roof prices! If your over 60 Forget it! You'll be in your seventies before you see kats over $50000 regularly. Supply and demand, condition, all these things play a role. And remember Inflation! My first New car was a 1975 Trans AM Loaded out the door $5300! WoW! Lets just say it would be a $30000 car now thats 6 times its value almost. Whats 6 times a prowler?Hope i live long enough to find out. Never selling mine unless its for need of $$$$$$ ------------------ |

quote: While on the high side, keep in mind too that would be for a MINT low mileage perfectly restored T/A. So that would chew up a fair amount of that profit margin. Additionally, that is almost 30 years ago. On average, a car takes 20+ years before starting to really be worth any amount over sticker again but, with inflation, is it really over sticker? A good fairly recent example is the highly touted (at that time) Corvette ZR1. The engine was gorgeous and they cost somewhere in the neighborhood of upper $50's (exclusive of price goudging). They only made about 5000 of them. Today, those can still be bought for pennies on the dollar. Bottom line, if you are thinking a Prowler is going to be worth sticker or 2-3-4 times sticker in 5 or 10 years, it's highly doubtful. Not to say that can't be a first time but, looking at history, I'd say not. |

I'll drive my Kat, enjoy it. And not worry about what it will be worth at a later date. If you are putting your money in the Kat as an investment, you lose out on the whole idea of the car. For me it is not what it cost versus what it is worth and how many years have transpired. I like to look at it this way. For the great majority of cars, you buy them, drive them, and watch their value sink into the toilet. For many, they are depreciated by 50% in 3-5 years. Buy a new '02 prowler today for $35K. Drive it for 3 to 5 years, and what is it worth? If you took decent care of it, it might just be worth what you paid for it, or darn near. That is where the value is. |

The Value of a prowler. I drive mine daily, it's the way it makes me feel-I could care less how much money the cars worth. I pulled up next to a school bus today and it brought joy to my heart to see the way the kids were looking at the prowler. Somethings money can't buy- for everything else there's mastercard. |

I met someone that was so proud of the fact that his uncle had an early prowler with only 250 miles on it. I told him to park in the living room and use it as a couch because he's not enjoying the CAR. I still enjoy the P.O.A. because of the majority of us that drive these cars and for the great knowledge and help that alot of you have. I'm happy that I don't have and don't want to sell it.I just can't beleive that there are so many "new" prowlers still unsold. So like that saying goes "you get or you don't" and unfortunatly many don't. |
