A quote from a Car and Driver article on the Crossfire ... "... Limited in this case means 20,000 units per annum, some 17,000 of them destined for North America. The numbers are calculated to preserve a measure of exclusivity and also recognize the realities of the market place. Even so, with a sports-car market that’s increasingly crowded, thanks to the arrival of the Nissan 350Z and Mazda RX-8, that goal looks ambitious. Consider Chrysler’s last foray into the realm of limited production high profile cars, the Prowler: 2631 copies went out the door in 2000, it’s best sales year. Then again, too understate things a trifle, the Crossfire is a far better effort than the Prowler, which is essentially a kit car with a factory warrantee. And an expensive kit car at that. ..."

The Crossfire...HA...exclusive/limited production...Ya...like the Ford focus. C&D should not even compare the Prowler to a production line auto. It is a hand build piece of art. "Kit Car"....let me at them!!! Nothing personnal Whealy, thanks for the info. I will never read C&D again, not that I read it before. |

Well now, first, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. And as much as we experience negativisms here on the board and sometimes hunt those nay-sayers down with torches, rocks and spears (oh wait, that is a scene from Frankenstein and also Beauty and the Beast) this IS America afetr all and free speach is something we all have the privledge to enjoy (when taken to extremes, perhaps not ... but that's another story). Ok, with THAT said ... who was the moron that suggested that Prowler was an overpriced kit car, was it Cesar? I DID subscribe to that rag and was thinking of doing so again, but after that mis-guided remark ... nope, ain't gonna do it! Will continue to peer at their pages in airport newspaper stands for free -- their loss, not mine. By the way ... I LOVE my kit car, and as far as I'm concerned, Viper, Corvette, heck ... they ALL must be kits cars of some type as they came from parts, were all buil by hand more or less and all are not on a typical production line. my 2 cents worth ... |

Had my Borla exhaust installed today at local Chrysler Dealer. He has had 2 Prowlers since they came out! 2000 and a 2001 (Orange still in showroom).I was paying my bill and saw a crossfire brochure, i asked him when he was getting them in he said he wasn't. He said its $6000 for special tools to work on them. He seems to think its going to be like the Prowler!!!LOL He's doesn't think he'll sell many???Completely different Cars in my opinion, different buyers. People liked the Hot Rod aspect of the prowlers, no rear seat, no trunk. Not a practical car. You should be able to fit some stuff in the crossfire trunk--Luggage, golf clubs etc. I won't buy C+D anymore thats for sure, the writer is a *******!!! ------------------ |

What aturkey! M/T did a road test of a Kat a while back and complained about how much trouble getting into the trunk (?)was with the top up along with other negatives. These guys (gals) call themselves automotive riders....well, if it ain't a BMW or a rice burner it ain't real. I'll take all the negatives they write about and enjoy my Kat for years to come. I didn't buy it for trunk space or an auto trunk release...I bought it cause its a class car with a limited number of class people driving them. Sorry C&D no more perusing your pages... |

Some food for thought. I have not seen the article but with what of the article is presented, I'd like to give my 2 cents worth. It is kind of hard to sell, oh say 5,000 units of something when the most that was produced for sale in any given year is 3,900. As they quote the "low" prowler sales figure of 2,600, they fail to mention that that is almost 25% of production. They also fail to mention the REALLY low production quantity the prowler experienced. Twenty Thousand units in one year is nearly twice as many as the prowler for all the years 97-02. If twent thousand in one year is low, what is 11,000 in 5 years? |

I have seen C&D AND Motortrend's Prowler bashing. Must be elitist snobbism after they just tested a Ferarri or Lambo. On the other hand, if you look at the inside of the Prowler CD, it quotes Motortrend's review of the sound system and gave it extremely favorable reviews.... Remember, most car mag articles are written by engineers who usually look at all the parts and never add up the sum, or the feeling you get when driving such a unique car. |

I believe that I can see some validity in C&D's opinion of the Prowler. From my perspective the Prowler is not a practical car. In fact, I don't refer to my Prowler as a car. It's my TOY. But I'd not trade it for anything I've yet seen made. I view a "car" as an apparatus to economically get me and my needed possessions from point A to point B with reasonable comfort. I take good care of my "Toys". My car has no rules, except that it must be dependable in getting me from A to B as I wish. I'll trust C&D with the responsiblity of rating "cars". Terry |

How can we expect others to share our opinion of our Prowlers when there are such diverse opinions about the cars on this website? In the above post Terry thinks of his Prowler as a "TOY", mine is my daily driver. Some people don't drive in anything other than warm, sunny weather, others of us have removed windshield wipers and drive it in rain, snow, storms, etc. A lot of POA folks keep their cars stock, others add one modification after another. I guess my feeling is what counts to me is how I view my KAT in my own mind. The overwhelming positive reactions from people when they see the car mean way more to me than what's written in some article by someone who has probably never even set in one, much less driven a Prowler. |

Terry, I am in Marty's camp, and I also CAN see your view of the Prowler as a "toy". Opinion noted and respected. AND I can see your point if driving your Prowler to work can cause paint damage by the plant fallout....To make it a daily driver, you need a safe place to park it at work, or else you will be miserable with the car! Mine is a daily driver and my one and only means of transportation. That was my choice of how I am going to view the car. Different strokes for different folks...LOL. I will also stack my daily driver prowler against most people here in terms of cleanliness and show quality! NOW TIME TO READ THE SIGNATURE!! ------------------ |

I guess I might have taken the "Kit Car" comment too personnally....by the way how much is the Mustange (Kit Car)cobra worth now. It may take awhile but these cars will have a future value, because of there visual appeal and their limited production. Since I am living in the present, I purchased it as my daily driver and still can't figure out what problems they are talking about. Like Marty said, "It's how we view the car"...not to mention the thousands of others that oogle at them on the road and at shows. I've had too many people stop or just yell out...NICE CAR to worry about what the uneducated, uncultured C&D writing minority think. I feel sooooo much better now. |

Some call it a kit car, some call it impractical, some call it an expensive toy. Remember these comments are made by people who don't own the car For us: 1. ITS mine The ITS have it, so ITS a keeper. We're 66/56 and this is the best toy we have ever had. And by the way we do have other toys (cars). Remember toys are fun to play with, are fun to have, are fun to show off, and it is something you treasure. I agree. MT and CD usually have no idea what they are talking about when it comes to cars. I recently saw a article about the "new ponycars" the Lancer and the Civic LXI-T-R type. Sure guys, there is no substitute for cubic inches. The Prowler doesn't have to be practicle to be fun and enjoyable, it's not a Lincoln. And the wow factor will still surpass any Vette, Thunderbird, or 350Z on the road. It's really the only car out recently that has a real shot of being worth something 20-30 years down the line. 11,000 out there... let's see, I rate it a buy! |

I've owned a lot of cars. Almost all American made muscle cars - still have my 67 Firebird 400 and 66 Cadillac Convertible... for what it is worth.... No car I have ever owned (or for that matter ridden in) puts as big a grin on my face and the faces of those that I drive by. Especially kids. And they will be the car buyers of the future. What ever they want to call it, it is simply too fun to have and drive. People stop at my house when they see it in the garage. Wish I had another....... Why don't we publish the web site/link and send them emails from everyone on this board - not complaining that they are stupid or ignorant, but that cars like these are meant to be enjoyed and as far as that goes, no other car made by an American manufacturer has what the Prowler has. Just write them 2000 or more emails that say ; " hey, we love these cars.. Kit car has a negative connotation. How about "expertly designed and lovingly assembled by car people for car people" cars ? 2000-3000 emails from happy owners would get us noticed in a positive way...... For what it's worth. I think most articles are written to make more create contoversy. one of the best is to drop comments like the one they made about the Prowler. Get more people talking about their mag. Sales, Sales, Sales. It worked on this group, didn't it? Anyone go out and buy one of their mags to read the story?????? |

Let's look at this from another perspective. To me, the best reason to check a new release (movie) out is when the critics say they don't like it! Same with the Prowler - it's just their damned opinion and it don't mean squat to me! |

Actually Gray Ghost, many people have actually said they would cancel their subscription because of the article while others said they may just read it for free on airplanes or at the newsstand. Also, magazines make most of their money off ads. Readership is just a part of the function of ad pricing. |

Come on guys. a writer at a magazine writes a column you don't like so you cancel the subscription? Kinda mellow dramatic, don't you think? It won't hurt the magazine cause they are all part of conglomerates and the subscription attrition rate is alot higher then all of those canceling here. Maybe too, your reading and interpreting it wrong. Isn't a kit car "hand assembled" versus factory line built? |

It's sort of like movie critics, how many of them do actually agree on films?Do you go to the movies based on one person's opinion? |
