'97 bought new 1-5-98 w/126 dealer owner driven miles Recalls done: Frame welds checked - had all needed and then some. Fuel rail Front lower ball joints - dealer wouldn't let me have or look at old ones, and didn't mention if damaged or not. Said they had to go back to DC. (NOT!) Damage done to arms, rims, and minimal damage to knuckles. Upper ball joint undertorqued on reassembly and dealer fought me on even checking it. I had to have a friend and another dealer check it. Was to be at 65. Was at 30. Took it back to original dealer and fought more til he "checked" it and said all was where it was supposed to be. (NOT!! - see below.) 12/98 2927 miles - factory carpet cut wrong. Warranty replacement. Left on plastic carpet cover as a courtesy. Radio hum that gets louder with increased RPM - Warranty replaced amp. Still hums. Top had minor leaks in rain and had wind noise coming from rear. Warranty adjustment. No mention of this on the receipt. Dry and quiet now. 5/99 3058 miles - radio still buzzing. TSB's checked and nothing there. Chrysler was notified and said they are researching the problem and will get back to me. (They never did.) Was also told that Chrysler was aware of the problem, and that it also exists on the Vipers. (I had the same problem with my '70 cutlas and fixed it myself. It was just a bad ground on the battery cable.) Still waiting to hear back from Chrysler on this as of 8/03. *6/99 - I drive it so little, I hid the keys before going on vacation, and when I went to drive it some time after I got back, I forgot where I hid the keys. *8/99 - New key alarm transmitter to replace the one I can't find. 5/00 3694 miles - right front turn signal light out. Bulb replacement didn't solve. Warranty repaired ground wire and reimbursed for light bulb. Low air pressure light on, but tires not low - Warranty recalibrated. Delayed transaxle engagement on cold start after sitting up for a couple weeks - was told after sitting, fluid drains out of tranny til started and allowed to run a little bit. No repairs done. Was told by someone else later on that, dealer was not right on this. It shouldn't do that. Still does it on occasion. Intermitant loss of power at higher speeds - (I didn't tell them just WHAT speed, but was @ just over 100 mph). Dealer couldn't find the problem so dumped the info from my computer and reprogrammed the whole thing under warranty. Seems to have solved the problem. Interestingly, the receipt shows nothing was done on this. *8/00 - Found lost key and transmitter and had all recallibrated to same frequency. No charge. *2001 or so - Had just started the car to run to temp about every 2 weeks. Drove it about once a month. (Not a good way. If I don't start it for 3 weeks or more the battery goes dead. Just letting it run up to temp and shutting it off doesn't boil off condensation in the motor, unless you do the following...) Started it one day to let it run and went inside, phone rang, etc. and I forgot it was out there running with the car cover still covering the hood, for about 1 1/2-2 hrs. FREAKED OUT and jumped in to shut it off. Temp gauge was pegged in the red zone. Started dropping as soon as I shut it off. Opened hood to cool. No harm noticed. I'm assuming regular oil changes saved me on this one. 5/03 5600 miles - Low air pressure light on again when tires not low. 5/03 6875 miles - After reading up on the front shocks leaking, I looked at mine (from the top) and saw no leaks but show signs of something leaking, mostly from right front end area where car is parked in garage. I noticed left front leak signs also after moving to other side of garage for a week. Installed front splash guards. Left side, 2 clips on fender were full of fiberglass material (or whatever fender is made of) and had to be scraped out to put clips in. In the process I punctured a very small hole thru the fender. (BEFORE you try this, send me a message. I have some suggestions on how to better scrape the clips out without damage.) Those 2 T-bolts were a tight fit and had to be tapped down into place. 7-03 7141 miles - Finally got ball joint damage to arms touched up and after 3 attempts to get acceptable rims from dealer, got a check to buy my own. Rechecked torque on upper ball joints from recall and said all was as should be. (NOT!!) 7/03 7244 miles - Tried new dealership for service. Having trailer hitch installed at dealership, they scratched my left exhaust tip. Also had them verify upper ball joint torque was proper after the above recall and LF was @ 48, RF @ 50. Torqued to proper 65. (I KNEW the original dealer lied!) While on lift, I checked for shock leaks - found none. Overall, I'm very happy with my KAT and have had very few problems. ------------------ Mickey 1997 Plymouth Prowler #156 Custom car cover Mopar front splash guards Real Rod stainless steel transmission cooler cover Mopar Trailer hitch and harness Real Rod weekender 1992 Plymouth Grand Voyager SE Longhorn scratches Boomerschlobber This message has been edited by idive on 08-13-2003 at 10:20 AM |

Follow-up on top problem . . . Had conversation with GM of dealership, who immediately had a new top assembly ordered. Replacement went fine and doesn't leak (had to drive home in a HEAVY rain storm). Had ball joints replaced without any problems, no other problems, other than too much rain in Atlanta lately, cutting into Prowling time! |

"97, bought new October, '02. Have put 4500 miles on it so far. Problems: 1. Gas gage inaccurate - replaced circuit board behind gage fixed it. That's all so far, but I haven't yet been in rain with it. Absolutely love the car, but I expect to have some problems with it, since it is essentially hand built in small numbers. |

Can anyone possibly post an Excell spread sheet that we can fill in? Trying to follow a large list like this doesn't do any good. We could just check off the boxes that apply to us. Just a thought. |

1999 Red 1400 miles (sold) no problems, no complaints 2001 Mo Blue 6500 miles, no complaints 1. Would rather have Candy Red during day, but Mo Blue is AWESOME under florescent lights at night 2. Ball Joint recall 3. Front-Upper-Right Ball Joint leaks after recall 4. The hood won't stay up anymore, need struts but haven't decided whether or not to take it in. I tend to stay away from service work unless absolutely necessary. Almost always gets minor damage and dirty while in the shop. Learned to appreciate (and live with) the quirks of the car and enjoy the true spirit of the car. This car still looks awesome every time I see it in my garage, on the road, or in pictures. Timeless classic for sure. |

2002 Inca Gold about 7000 miles since March 03 (new) 1)200 miles the same day after driving home from Chrysler dealer (in Lafayette, IN) the pulley on the power steering exploded and went through the side of the body panel...all belts immediately frayed and flew off. Dealer (in Fort Wayne) repaired, did a good job. 3) It always kind of bothers me the way the lifters sound when you first start the motor when cold. Someone needs to invent a preoiler for the prowler engine. Electric powered, maybe fit between the filter and engine? I love this car though. I never thought I would own a car that I would have a lot of passion for again, like the cars I owned as a kid. But it happened. Lucky me. |
