quote: Not knowing the specifics, that might be just an average to below average deal if you are required to buy a new Viper from them. Since this is the last year of the current body style and the new model will have more horsepower and apparently a number of buyers are waiting for the new one versus the current Viper, I have found a number of dealers taking $10K+ off the stickers to move current inventory. If that were the case with your car, they really are only giving you $23,900 for your car plus taking $10K off of theirs. Tricks like this are routinely done by dealers. It makes you think you got a helluva deal trading your car in but, then you have to buy their Viper at full sticker. I'd even bet in this case, they tell you dealers don't/won't discount Vipers at all. No dealer is in business to buy your car on the high side, have it in inventory for who knows how long, then make nothing selling it. If they bought your car outright for $33,900, they'd have to find someone willing to pay $39K+ to make it worth their wild. |

Take the money as fast as you can get it... That's a very good price for a 97, and you can almost buy a new one at that price from the dealers who still have 'em. |

I agree with YF.How much of that is the discount on the new Viper and how much are you really getting for the Prowler? |

That's incredible. What part of the country are you located? I was offered $20K for my 99 (with 20K miles) a few weeks ago. Needless to say, I still have it. t ------------------ Black 99 |

quote: From experience, stay clear of the Lotus, they are not only more trouble then they are worth but, it really isn't a daily drive AT ALL. The price of them also keeps falling well beyond depreciation. Check pricing on the 97 Viper, I'll bet he is on the high side (if not over the top) on what it's worth to give you so much for your car. An easy way to find out is, tell him your not interested in the Viper but, you would still like to sell him your Prowler. See then what the NEW price for your car would be. |

Steven... Friend just sold his 97 GTS last month....TONS OF MODS, red/stripes, HRE wheels, 8,000 miles...got $49K....seemed like a low price till he looked at newer Vipers....found a 2001 RT/10 for $51K with 2000 miles.....Viper prices are also soft....even a "Gold Edition" wouldn't add much if anything to the price of a 97....if the dealer wants much more than $15K difference, deduct the extra from the price of your car and that is what he is REALLY giving you for your Prowler .... |

yellowfever have you own a lotus if you have then could you tell me what problem have you have with it. I ask the lotus dealer and they told me that the new v8 does not have that many problems with them now I am will not drive it but 2 times a month I am trying to sell the car myself because I know how the dealer will try to work you. I am looking to pay about 20K to 15K between the two cars I have look at ads for 97 and they have them in the upper 30's to low 30's. I see that the viper are getting hit like the prowler was about 6 month ago. |

quote: Electrical, engine, headliner falling down, interior falling apart, value dropping daily, expensive to fix, stop me when I hit one that wakes you up. Seat leather wearing out, leaking, faulty exhaust..... They look good but, are a crap car that are worth alot less when you go to sell one. Put it this way, the local Lotus salesman talked me out of buying one when I decided I wanted one. His advise was to get a Porsche instead. I got the Porsche, my buddy got the lotus and all the associated headaches. His was the V-8 model (not the 4 cyclinder) |
