Hey Guys and Gals, I am going to be doing a lot of traveling with my Cat with trailer in tow the week of 4th of July and I am look for some Patriotic ideas for my Prowler? It's hard to add the american flag to purple. I have a set of American flags with posts to lock into the two holes in the trunk, but the cheap flag material scratches the paint and rubs on my TGF spoiler.... not to mention the cheap material for the flag rips and tatters at speeds of 45+ mph. ------------------ |

WalMart sells a set of 2 6" x 8" or so magnetic flags that are like the sign material contractors use on the sides of their vehicles. You might try them if there is sufficient ferrous material in the door and/or trunk to stick. ------------------ |

Harley Davidson dealers carry heavy tiple stitched American Flags that I believe could be adapted to the flag caddies. ------------------ |

Maybe Don and Kelly, Getresults Graphics, can make an American flag trunk lid cling decal like the ones they made special for the Colorado event? Those came out very nice, removable, and reuseable. JMO |

The American flag goes with anything and any color. If you look around your local Targets, Walmarts, Kmarts, Meier's, etc. they sell american flag car flags in much better quality material than you are talking about! |

What do you use to hold the flags in the rear decklid holes? I've been wanting to do that for the 4th of July. I know I seen a few folks that had flags flying on the CAAP CD.... So what do you use???? Thanks! ------------------ |

Spoons, I have a set of Texas flags that I got from a NY based company. I used them at the Colorado event and I can state they worked at 85 mph and never tore or shreaded... They were $9.00 apiece. Buy their Premium flag and and the poles com with them but are for the window. They can be adapted to work in the trunk holders as I did.. Very good quality.. http://www.carflag.com/Pricelist/Pricing_Car_flags_Stock.htm#Premium ------------------ |

prwlyn How do you modify the window flag caddies to fit the Prowler flag caddies?

Spoons, what I did was to cut the poles that come with their flags, window poles, and then used grinder to trim the bottom of the pole to fit into the trunk holders you have already. I made them a tight fit so that I had to push hard to get them down into the holder. I then drill a small hole through the holder and into the pole. I screwed a small size sheetmetal screw through the hole and into the pole. this ensures that the pole will not come out of the holder. The pole that comes with the flags is a lot stronger than the one that came with the holders. There may be a couple of shots to help in the Colorado pictures that I posted. I know there was a couple of shots of my car and the flags. If need be I can take a couple of clear shots if you need them. ------------------ |

Here is one from the trip but I'll take some close ups tomorrow and post them. This one gives the basic idea. I like these poles because they have a locking cap on top so there is no way for the flag to pull off the pole. As I mentioned before we hit speeds of 85 mph and that is the most bend and the flags don't hit the car. This message has been edited by prwlyn on 06-19-2002 at 11:45 AM |

The same thing can be done with the Harley Davidson flags I mentioned. These are window flags as well and instead of white poles they have black which I think would look better. JMO ------------------ |

Spoons, Try looking in a marina or yachting/boating supplies shop... Those flags are very durable, but will be too heavy for flag caddie poles... You will have to adapt them... A colleague bought me a set of automobile window flags; the colors and proportions are very nice. They are actually made with two flags sewn together with a heavy duty double stitch, so I am in the process of adapting them as well... WildBill :silverflame |

Ok, I see now.... Didn't realize someone made a piece that fit in the decklid... Where can I get them, or is there a way to fabricate the mounts as well..... (stupid me) I've got my two flags, now I just gotta mount em.... I'm sure I could figure it out, but I haven't seen my prowler in 3 days |
