Yipes...what an empty feeling knowing my factory warantee is out in a couple of weeks (Shame on me and especially Marc for abusing these fine cars!) In addtion to everything else to look over, I've assembled a Prowler bad actors check list for Prowler drivers to review before warantee expires:

Unusual tire wear?__ Pitted or Peeling wheels?__
Headlight moisture?__ Paint / chipping or cracking?__
Cracks at firewall?__ Cracks at rear fender near tailight?
Convertible top latch?__ Unusual wear of soft top?__
Squeaks and Rattles in soft top or dash?__
Headlight switch bezel on dash?__ Alternator/Belt noise?__
TSB on Brake System?__ Water Seals?__ Leaking hood struts?
Epoxy in Frt fender flap brackets?__Difficulty filling tank?
Tachometer lighting?__Dog hair caked into the CD player?__

and????_____ what have we missed?

Jack and Chromer.

The one problem I experienced just before my warranty expired was the failure of the low tire sensors. I got them all replaced. My warranty expired last July.

Great idea! I had a problem with my trunk lid liner double sided velcro that was on the earlier models. There is a kit of plastic fasteners to fix it. I picked them up at the dealer, signed off on the problem and installed them myself. I think there was a tsb on this problem.

With a little luck, the factory will stay with these beyond the warranty period. It never was a typical production vehicle. You may have to go beyond the dealer, and they likely won't deal with little stuff, but if past experience is a guide, we will be OK for a few years, especially if there is relatively low mileage. I'm also a little disappointed that we haven't always been told about factory bulletins. One example is the gasoline filler fix. There are a bunch more like that, where they have waited for the customer to complain before telling you they know.

Chromer - If you are bringing Jack the Wonder Dog to the 2002 Rocky Mountain High event, I'll write down dog hair in the CD player !

My additions to your list:

Gas gauge accuracy

Remove and replace chrome center caps several times to see if breakage is going to occur

How about leaky weatherstrip over the side windows?
Mine leaks like a sieve...I heard there are some adjustments that can be made to the top for a better seal. Also I have been looking for a good weatherstrip conditioner.

Marc - Do you happen to have a part number for the kit? I understand that the holes are already pre-drilled in the rear deck lid.

Thanks,
Mike

Chromer,
Run don't walk to a telephone and call Bob Cooper (504-892-9165) at Causeway Chrysler Plymouth in Covington Louisiana to purchase an extended warranty before yours runs out. These can only be purchased until the date that your original warranty expires. Bob is great to deal with and sells them at only $100.00 over cost.

Mike,
My decklid was not pre-drilled. My service tech drilled and installed the pins at no charge under my warranty. I did still have some problem with the upholstered part sagging and we put a few more pins into it.

For those of you who have 1999s, the decklid upholstery for the 2000 and up is a formed part instead of just a flat piece of material like the 1999s. I finally upgraded to the newer 2000 style and have no problems whatsoever with it and love the form fitted look.

Mike
I don't have the part # but the tsb# is 23-56-98. I just went to the dealer with the car, gave them the #, they confirmed the problem and gave me the parts. I did have to sign a release saying the problem was fixed. Mine already had some of the holes but I had to drill a couple. It still is a little saggy so I may complain again and try to get the newer molded cover like Larry.
Larry
Did you have to pay for it or did they provide it?

Regarding deck lid carpet. I wanted to update mine (99) to the molded newer style. Went to dealer and looked up part number. Refers to it as carpet but has the same part number for all years. Don't want to order it and get same heavy gray carpet. Anybody know it they've superceded to newer style?

OK..let's see, the following are additions to the Prowler end of warrantee check list (thanks for all suggestions):

Low tire sensors?__ Deck lid carpet?__ Window water seals?
Wheel Ctr cap durability?__ Gas gauge accuracy?__
extended warrantee?__

Larry:
I can't run to the phone (bad knee) to buy an extended warrantee. I could probably hobble to phone, but by the time I got there I would probably forget what I was planning to do in first place and take the money and buy Prowler Pro Gears instead??

Also, I'm going to add another one to the check list that I forgot about. At about 4,000 miles I was getting a "clunk" from the rear end from neutral to gear. Larry my Prowler tech said it's fairly common for the rear control arm support attachment bolts to become loose on these cars.

Rear Control arm support attachment bolts?__

Anything else?

And Alley Cat,
Yes, Jack the Wonder Dog will be attending all events at the Mile High Prowler Rally in June 2002. In fact, he again will be my co-pilot at the speed trials at bandemeire speedway then. Other racers will be seeing and hearing the roar of my tailpipes going down the track and will be dodging flying hair balls streaming from my cockpit!!

XOXO
Jack and Chromer.

Marc,
Due to some accidental damage done to my first decklid upholstery my prowler tech replaced it with another.

Cat,
I'm pretty sure that all of the decklid upholstery is now the new and improved version.
While you're at the dealer, think about replacing your 1999 speaker box cover with the newer 2000 and up model. The newer cover hides all of the duct tape used on the earlier cars and also protects the top from being pinched in the decklid latching mechanism. I think it cost me about $110.00 for the new style and installation is an easy 5 minute job.
