Buyer Be Ware,

If this is Matt Antonelli of North Jersey Racing, then this is the guy that "stiffed" a couple of people on Whipple superchargers that never worked properly.

This is a reply I received from Finish Line. BTW, these times must have been without the gearset

Hi Al

I would more than happy to install the twin turbo set up. The only catch to
the twin turbo is that the engine will need to be removed and modified to
handle the extra horsepower. The big question is how much power do you want
to make? The fuel will need to be upgraded as well as the electronics. I
will need to install a engine management system along with the stock
computer. I have not installed a turbo in one of these cars yet. I have
installed a custom supercharger in two 99s and one 2000. The 99 runs
13.0@112MPH. I have seen the paxton prowlers run only 13.6@ 104MPH. I would
not want to push a stock motor much higher. The 99 made 361RWHP. Let know
how much HP you are looking for and I will give you an estimate.

Matt

OK, here's what I found out. This in fact is Matt Antonelli that Ken Miles had mentioned. He also said he had dealings with our benefactor Mike K. No details were given, or requested by myself. He started to tell me about some early installations using the Whipple blowers and some problems his customers had.I was convinced that any problems were not all his fault. He said that while the Whipple was good and reliable, and made boost from idle, the noise from the unit did not suit a car like our cat-lots of blower noise, maybe equal to a gear drive for a cam. His shop is 4k sq feet and he works alone.Head work is done in house. We discused head work to include larger valves, and flow work. Cams will be reground, with increase in lift and duration. The blower might be a Vortech. There will be a totally different management system for the engine. We discussed headers. Rear wheel HP will be estimated at close to 400. He has no chassis Dyno, but has access to one. Turn around is aprox 2 weeks or less once all the parts are in house. The 13 second 361 RW HP car was basically a stock motor( no head or cam work) with the Whipple at about 6-7 lbs boost and a management system. Whipple inlet temps run 100 deg cooler then the centrifugal blowers. I await a call back Monday to see what all this good stuff will cost. Gut feeling is that this guy is on the level, and is capable of 1st rate work.
Thats all I got for now!!

Glenn,
Does this mean that he has a whipple blower for the Prowler and is this what you are having installed? You mentioned that there was noise like a cam gear. I would be willing to live with that for a whipple charger. I was also interested in having cam work done. Please post back with updates as you get them. Also, what is he charging for the whipple chargers? Thanks.

Bill, he has installed 3 or 4 Prowler systems using the Whipple with success. All mounting hardware was made in house. He suggested the Vortech blower as an alternative to the Whipple. That blower whine is fine for a short run, but for the long haul, I bet it can be annoying. This will be his first Prowler install using the Vortech if I decide to go that way. I have no pricing yet as many of the choices will blend with the other.

3 or 4 installs, hhhhhmmmmmmmmmm????????

If he has done 3 or 4 installs, you would think you would remember a number that low, Dave at Paxton could say aaaaaaaaaa 40 or 41.

Paxton, has sold over 40 hhhhhmmmmmmmmmm they work.
----------------------------------------------------
Boost at idle, no way. Great for racing, bad for cruis'n.

The whipple is a screeching noisy piece of dodoooo. You would burn out in less than 5 miles.

I think Mike K. tried to make this deal work and had no success.

Move on my friends, I smell snake oil, you have been warned.

Mike K. Told me about this site a month ago, I looked around and did't get a warm and fuzzy feeling.

KEN and I have warned you, be patient all, R&D is something that isn't done overnight.

Gary, the fuzziness was on my part-3 was the number. Let me throw the same thing back at you-you THINK Mike tried to make the deal work? what does that mean? Did he or didn't he? He's closer to you then me-find out and report facts.
Guess what, thats what the guy said-too noisy-lets use the
Vortech. The whipple would burn out in less then 5 miles-get real Gary-what do you base this on? Notice I never mentioned Paxton products by name, and this product was also discussed with a different management system. I wouldn't jump into this project without contacting past installation owners and question their findings. Your nose must be different then mine, because I didn't get any bad vibes. BTW, did you even talk to the man or have you become clairvoyant? Nothing ventured nothing gained I say and I always marched to my own beat.If I visit his shop and talk to and view other installations and I dont like it, I'll say later, and move on.

This is a post off the whipple site:

Mike Pyle
2001 Tahoe Install
Sat Feb 17 14:30:42 2001

I installed JBA Headers,B&B Cat Back, Cold Air intake, front and rear Sway bars, and the complete Whipple kit. it took two of us about 15 hours to complete all modifications. I do agree the manual needs help. I have installed other whipple kits so I did have some experience. I can't tell you how Happy I have been with the Whipple systems the truck runs great and I have had no problems. If I did it again I would not have done the Headers, That was a pain and I don't think it was worth the time and price.

Pyle

P.S. Dustin Whipple did a great job of answering the questions I had during the install. "Whipples Rule"

And another:

Stephen
2001 5.3L Tahoe
Mon Feb 12 19:09:37 2001

I thought it was just me. I installed the supercharger myself and it took about the same amount of time that you have indicated. This is the first supercharger that I have installed and the claims that some of these guys here have installed their kits in 8 hours just astounded me. The boost-a-pump was a little sketchy in the instructions and seemed to be added as an afterthought.....even though it integrates into the factory wiring pretty well. The Xerox copy of the pictures at this location in the instruction manual were poor. I am very happy with my supercharger and the extra performance. Other mods include: JBA headers, B&B triflow exhaust, Airaid air intake, accel 9000 extreme plug wires. Many people told me that I was crazy to mod a truck with only 2K miles on it....I don't regret it at all.
Stephen...another Dr.

If this really is Matt Antonelli of North Jersey Racing I can say that I had a less than pleasant experience with him and lost close to $12,000.00 in the process.

I still have all the parts from the supercharger sitting in my garage which Matt promised to buy back from me, but has yet to fulfill his promise.

If anyone would like the details, please feel free to contact me by email.

Butchee,

Whipple makes some fine superchargers and when the system is designed properly I'm sure that it performs great.

I don't think that Gary is saying that Whipple makes a crummy supercharger, but 3lbs of boost at idle is not a reasonable design nor is an incessant screeching noise from an overtaxed bypass valve acceptable.

The kit that was installed on my car was not designed by Whipple, it was designed by Matt Antonelli. If the system works so well, then why have we not heard rave reviews from a single person that has had a successfull installation of his system?

Clairvoyant, Unfortunately yes, .

THe Whipple IS A SCREAMER.

A friend of mine put it on his boat, so to make a long story short and after a long boating weekend he took it off. The wife, kids and himself agreed that the noise was unbearable, That was many years ago, maybe they have improved.

I really feel sorry for Mike, making a huge effort on this part and not being happy with the final result.

Paxton has the best system for the buck.

This is one of the many things that makes this board so popular, people helping people.
