I had a squeek in the dash and had to remove the top panel. I found some posts that were very helpful, explaining that the top just snaps out. I, however, thought I'd be a little more specific here as I had a few scary moments. The dash doesn't "Slide" out as much as it does pop out. First, grab the back of the dash, near the window. If you move your fingers in about 12 inches from the A piller on each side, you can get a fairly good grip. Pull firmly towards you and you will hear the top fastners give (they seem to be well made, metal fastners, nothing like the garbage on our center wheel caps). What confused me is the fact that the body colored gauge cluster covering (silver on my silver cat)is attached to the top piece and they have 4 clips that hold them in place also. Those fastners are at the bottem of the cluster. You need to now grab the cluster housing by the sides and evenly, yet forcefully, pull them out. The whole unit will then pop out. I found that the foam gasget around the center speaker had shifted resulting in plastic to plastic contact. A little glue and some extra sponge glued into a few places that I suspect will squeak in the future and all was well. |
