Laddie Roussel Prowlin' Route 66
2009-07-08
On Friday, July 3rd, 2009 I traveled from Hester, LA to St. Louis, MO. to meet and join the Route 66 Road Gang of Jim & Kathi Stallings, Larry Lord & Sandy, Vince, (my soninlaw) Tony Buono, Mike & Lori Ruterford, Mike & Karen Gatlin, and Steve Clark. In St. Louis we met Larry & Sue Mayes, Brian, Scotty and Thanks to Mel & Jane Beyes, & Rick Beyes for dinner and the guided trip to Ted Drewes for concrete ice scream at 10 PM Friday night. On Saturday, I traveled with the group on the 3rd leg of route 66 trip from Fenton, MO. to Springfield, MO. Than on Sunday traveled the 4th leg from Springfield, MO to Broken Arrow, OK. On Monday, I followed Steve Clark out of OK onto Little Rock, AR where I headed south on hwy 65/61 returning to Hester (halfway between New Orleans & Baton Rouge on MS river. Thanks again to Jim & Kathi Stallings for allowing us to join in on their vacation. It was a relaxing & enjoyable trip with 1,800 miles in my Prowler seat...

We stopped at Lambert's Cafe in Springfield, MO. Saturday night before getting to our Best Western. This is the place with Throwed Rolls... The food was excellent and plentiful.

This is Gary the owner. He gave all of us a Route 66 root beer and told us stories for 1 & 1/2 hours. Really enjoyed the stay and conversations. He retired as train robber from Knotts Berry Farm about five years ago and retired here buying the property from his brotherinlaw who owned it for 25 years. The original station store burned down in early 50s and never rebuilt. The oringinal auto garage building is still intact.

Our group shot. Gary retired from Knotts Berry Farm as a train robber and moved back here about five years ago. Bought this place from his brotherinlaw (who had owned it for 25 years). They built the replica of store which had burned down in early 1950s and never rebuilt. The garage was still intack.
Had to have one pic of me in front of garage.
Another garage restoration project to be completed in two years when the guy retires from Catterpillar.
Red Oak II. Owned by Lowell Davis (artist). He moved all the buildings from original location (about 15 miles away) and built family compound. Quite a history and story on some of the work he has done. Larry Lord can relate one interesting story.

When we pulled up to the Blue Whale there were around 30 motorcycles and 45 riders. Turns out they were from Spain & Brazil. They had rented MC and were traveling route 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica. It turned out they would be staying in same towns as our Prowler road gang. So, I'm sure there paths will cross along the route 66 west...
Blue Whale swimming hole along route 66 near tulsa. We stayed in Broken Arrow on Sunday night. On Monday morning I left the group and headed back to Louisiana. This was a FANTASTIC trip. Thanks to the Road Gang for letting me join in on the cruise of Route 66.
