Northwest Prowler Group in Palm Springs
2007-01-15
Some members of the Northwest Prowler Group met -without their cars - in the Palm Springs, CA area for a winter break get together prior to going to the Barrett-Jackson auction in Phoenix, AZ.
Since members made this trip without their prowlers, these pictures will be mostly of people and places.
Ken's temporary new dessert buddy ensures he gets his share.
Our hosts for the Palm Springs event were the Hollimans.
While the ladies checked out a local shopping mall, the guys checked out the local Air Museum which also had a special Leonardo DaVinci display which was extremely interesting.
A couple of hardy members drove up to Lake Tamarisk, about one hour east of Palm Springs to join another member who winters there for a round of golf at the local course. Hardy, because the weather was cold and windy.
The group heads out on a desert tour and stops for the mandatory group photo. Note the "white stuff" along the road. Yes that is snow. We hit a cold stretch of weather in Palm Springs.
We climbed rocks.....
gazed out over scenic vistas.....
stopped to admire the various desert plants.....
and the area with the balanced rocks....
we even took this hike to an old resevoir area...
to gaze upon a resevoir which that day was mostly covered with ice....
we even saw a member of our group balancing on a rock (perhaps influenced by the balancing rocks he had seen earlier).....
somehow the no swimming sign seemed unnecessary that day!!
In another area of the desert we read about the dangerous cactus that will "shoot" at you if you get too close....but there is always someone who would like to touch the pretty plants..
Back in Palm Springs we had Chuck remove his SUV from the garage so we could get a group picture in front of his prowler.
The group nicely blocked any view of the prowler and ....
it's beautiful custom interior.
Dinner out at Tommy Bahamas. Many of the group were leaving for Phoenix and the Barrett-Jackson auto auction the next day.
On the way to Phoenix is the General Patton Museum which has a large indoor display of military items and ....
a statue of the general and....
an outdoor display of several tanks.
Just down the road ( I10) from the Patton Museum is a place called Desert Center ( which is also near Lake Tamarisk where the golfers went). This restaurant has not closed it's doors in over 70 years - yes that's 24/7 for over 70 years!! Be sure to check out the Barrett-Jackson pictures next.
