NorCal - San Francisco Cruise
2003-08-02
Julie and Steve Lakins were determined to have a POA Event in San Francisco and what a fabulous day it turned out to be. Jane and I arrived at the Radisson Hotel at Fisherman’s Wharf with Julie waving us into the parking lot. Within 30 minutes the rest of the group arrived, Jim & Charlotte, Jack & Diane, first timers Jennifer & Mark Patternini, and Mike & Marcella making it 6 Prowlers. Jim volunteered to lead the group and we headed off to Lombard Street, the crookedest street in the world. From there we went to Coit Tower, then we picked up the 49 Mile drive and headed off to the Marina Green for a short stop. At Marina Beach, Oracle was having a rowing event while the Yacht Club also staged a race. I’m sure Larry Ellison had cleared this with the Yacht Club before the races started but for us amateurs it sure looked pretty confusing and dangerous. Through the Presidio to Fort Point for another photo opportunity then off to the Cliff House continuing along the Pacific Ocean past the San Francisco Zoo around Lake Merced then back up to Golden Gate Park for more scenic views. From Golden Gate Park we were off to Twin Peaks where we were the attraction for a while. What a view from Twin Peaks, you have to see it to believe it, a 360 degree panoramic view of the area. Time to get going for lunch, we were meeting Tom & Pat Dicker and Gary & Judy Myers for lunch at Pasta Pomodoro in Mill Valley where we had great service, food, and lots of chatter. Even an ex-mayor of Mill Valley stopped by to check out the Kat’s and visit. After lunch Tom took us through Belvedere Island and Tiburon, then around the back of Tiburon where some of the beautiful homes overlooking the bay where nestled. From there Jane and I said goodbye and Gary Myers took the lead for a cruise through Sausalito. We were all surprised and thankful that the traffic “Gods” were with us, no waiting, no traffic until we started towards the Golden Gate Bridge. Jim was a natural Tour Guide filling the group in along the way with historical and logistical information. This looks like a yearly event and we have the best Tour Guide.
