IMPORTANT ARRIVAL INFO—RIVERSIDE HOTEL, LAUGHLIN

Rules of the RT.66 –G.C. roads:  Fuel up BEFORE  we start tour.  Only turn on your headlights (daytime) if you need help.

Please print this page before you leave home.

When you enter the “casino strip” in Laughlin (about 2 miles long) you will be headed South.   The Riverside Hotel is the first of about a dozen high-rise major hotels, with Harrahs being the last.

Important Note:  Fuel up at the Texaco gas station at the end of the strip, on top of the hill,  just past Harrahs.

The Riverside has entrances and parking lots on both the north and south sides of the hotel.  It’s a big place.   Drive past the hotel and turn in under the big lighted display sign at the south end.   You will then come to a small sign that points left for Casino Entrance and right for Accessible Parking  (for all types of vehicles).

If you have a trailer, turn right and self-park in the closest spot (it’s a fair distance to the front door).

If you are driving just the Prowler, turn left towards the casino entrance  but STOP SHORT of the valet area, marked by overhead signs Valet Parking & Guest Registration.

PRIMARY PARKING:  For Prowlers without trailers.  Designated POA parking.   On your right as you are on approach to the casino entrance, but before you get there.  In front of the south tower—you will be parking along side the building in a covered area.  We were very lucky to get this area through the efforts of CJ.

SECONDARY PARKING:  For Prowlers with prowler trailers or vehicles with full-size trailers.  Park in the southeast corner of the large south lot which means over next to the Flamingo Hilton and down towards the River.  Any vehicle of any size is good for this area and so this can also serve as a back up for any overload of our primary parking.

VALET PARKING:   Most of you will be avoiding this.  But if you get into this area in error, just circle on through.  The marquee is not large and the valets try to quickly unload you and then move your car (themselves) to the basement garage, which is not self-park.  The situation here is not such that you can leave your car on the marquee drive while you check-in.

REQUEST A ROOM IN THE SOUTH TOWER.

It’s not necessary but it will put you closer to your car and our suite, if available.

TELL US YOU’VE ARRIVED:  At your convenience please come to POA Suite 999 in the South Tower and sign in, giving us your room number. Pick up your nametags, a goodie bag as full as Santa’s  (one per car), touring instructions for morning, etc.

And have a cold drink with other POA grand tourers.

Car Collection: There is a wonderful car collection on the 3rd floor (south end of the building).   This is separate from the smaller collection you will see on the lobby level toward the street.  Take the escalators up from the lobby level, or get off the elevator on 3.  It is a must see and remains open until 10:00 p.m.

Dinner:   Dinner is on your own, but a good spot is the Riverview Restaurant, which is located in the northeast corner of the hotel, lobby level.  Good food, good service, reasonable.  Wear your name tag and we may run into each other over a piece of fresh halibut but if not we hope see you at the 2nd floor theatre for the Everly Brothers concert.

For breakfast the next morning, note that the hotel does not have a full menu room service but does have a nice continental breakfast room service.

We will meet in the primary parking area at 7:30 a.m. Friday morning.  We have some pre-start goings on so please be on time. Get a good night’s rest for a fun packed next day.

A final comment: Traveling historic Route 66 is like racy lingerie, kitchen gadgets, and auto accessories.  None of these are truly necessary, but they all make life a little more interesting.  Old Route 66 is still like that—it’s for folks like us of the POA, who would rather drive though the heart of a small town, are suckers for neon lights, like to drink root beer from a frosted mug and just have old fashioned fun.

See you on the Main Street of America enroute to the Grand Canyon.
