I am interested in buying a 2000+ Prowler. I have been watching ebay and very few have sold because they did not meet the reserve price. Several keep getting relisted. I am having some trouble figuring out what these cars are really worth. There is one here in CT that is for sale by a used car dealer for $38,000. It is a 2000 with 4400 miles. Kelly BB say it is worth $31,000. Any thoughts? Are these cars good investments? With only 11,000 produced they should be very desirable at some future date.

doctork,
Perhaps in ten to twenty years the value will escalate at auctions such as Barrett for very low mile, garage queens. It is my true belief that the vast majority of Prowler owners purchased this unique vehicle to drive and enjoy. They are so much fun, very reliable, (few exceptions... ie, window regulator) have excellent road manners, and have all the modern safety and convience features one could ask for. Plus, you can take it to your local Chrysler dealer for any service! I purchased my 99 off of ebay two years ago and paid the 'buy it now' price, since several others were bidding against me. No regrets. Is 38K fair in CT? I don't know. Offer less, say 34 - 35K and see what happens. Remember, no pockets in coffins.

Most people here did not buy a Prowler as an investment. I personally feel that the Prowler has pretty much reached the low in depreciation. I could be wrong. As far as appreciation, who knows. On the positive side though our 99 is still valued right at $30K after 7 years. The original sticker was $39.9K. I can't think of any other car made that has had that low of a depreciation.

I BOUGHT A 2001 3 YEARS AGO WITH 4400 MILES IN PERFECT CONDITION WITH A FEW EXTRA'S, MY PROWLER NOW HAS 19000 MILES AND STILL IS IN PERFECT CONDITION, BUYING AND SEEING MY KAT IN PERFECT CONDITION AND BUYING IT FOR 35K WAS A GOOD PRICE I PERSONALLY WOULDN'T PAY MUCH MORE THAN 32K FOR A 2001 OR 2002 FOR 35K WITH LOW MILES AND PERFECT CONDITION A 2000 MAYBE 30 TO 31K. I don't see a price difference between 2000, 2001 and 2002 except for color preference.
Other things come into play, warranty, miles, condition, etc., of course. Woodwards, Black Ties and Deep Candy seem to be a little higher and they are different years. I don't think the Candy is bringing a higher price because of the year, but rather the color.
Others may disagree and probably will. lol

I'm actually agreeing with ED ?? Maybe the end is coming soon. But I do agree with him on that, year doesn't seem to matter (unless it still has a factory warranty), also extras don't seem to matter as much to others as it does to POA members who realize the value of them and if those are the mods they want themselves. I also agree with Beware that depreciation has seemed to hit the bottom on these. SO .. Pick the color you want and just enjoy it.

I agree with everything already said. Just purchased mine about 3 weeks ago. Black '00 w/26K miles, mods, and trailer ( Black 2000 w/Trailer ) The trailer was almost sold b/4 I purchased. The owner was going to drop the price to 31K for the Prowler only. The miles seemed high, but he had the mods I was looking for.

Agree that depreciation has probably bottomed. I'd been looking at Prowlers for about 3 yrs before I pulled the trigger on my purchase. I think prices have stabilized, but it will be YEARS before they are big money makers. Most owners probably purchased to drive. I did meet an owner in Sacramento, who had only driven his '01 about 5 times and had no intentions to take it out more than a couple of times a year.

I look at my purchase as $31K for a med-mileage Prowler with the mods I want and a trailer for $5.5K BTW I think some would agree that the trailers seem to be the hot commodity and will have a greater percentage of appreciation.

First off,,,Welcome to the POA website. Kelly BB is not a good source for determining the values of cars,,,,is more of a dealer 'tool'. Try www.NADA.com for more actual estimates.

Next: A car is worth what it will bring in CASH,, TODAY...

Good luck in your search.

Color seems to be the main factor other than mileage determining the price right now. I know I paid a premium for my Black Tie last year. only advice I would give is what will you do to the car when you get it. If you are thinking of repainting or adding a lot of mods, you may be better off getting a car for $30-$32 and using the extra money to make it your own. Take a look at Tangled up in Blue's car and Snoman's.

I'm certainly not the expert here, especially since I'm not a current Kat owner - YET, but I'm in the process of picking up a Candy Red (2002) with 18k miles with a trailer and quite a few extras for $42k. While that was certainly more than I expected to pay for a Kat with more miles than I originally wanted, it was the right color WITH the matching trailer (and within my own state of residence). I waited for the "right" opportunity to come along and feel the pricing was certainly "correct." With that being said, there are some owners who believe that the collectors value (i.e.-market pricing) is derived from the color and the mileage. Others, such as myself, just want a Prowler to enjoy and have fun with for years to come - not to sit in the garage until 2050 and then sell on Barrett-Jackson. As a buyer, you have to discern between which of the two you want to be. Just my $.02 worth...

I hate to totally disagree with you but I think the color does partially dictate the price and I bought mine to drive, not as an investment. I had over 50,000 on the first one, have over 13,000 on the second one and have not driven the 3rd one hardly at all, not because I am saving it, however. Just have not had the time so far.

I opted to purchase a lesser desireable color(Inca Gold) and repainted it the way I wanted.....I bought the Gold Kat and a matching trailer for $34K.....the car had 2,200 miles or so on it....trailer had none....paid $4200 for a color change on the car and added a few mods....still into the car for about the same as any stock color and I have a Kat thats kinda different...might be something to think about....

Snoman and PharmKat, I think you both hit the nail on the head. What a perfect example of how to personalize your kat. Great job! I may actually buy a low mileage Silver for around $30k, find a trailer and a hardtop, and then just paint both with the color I want. Add a few mods and bingo - I have my kat. The problem right now is finding one that has the 7/70 from the VIN. Tough find at this point. By the way, PharmKat, can you send any further pics of your kat and a list of your mods?? Thanks.

Acually I don't have any mods other than the bumper removal kit on mine, I think you meant to ask TUIB for more pics. Mine is a Black Tie edition number 007/163. Here is another two pics.

There is a Silver in the Classifieds. Low milage & extended warranty. Two out of three is not bad.

PharmKat,
I'm thinking of buying a Silver Prowler and possibly having the upper half of the car painted in the candy red. Sort of like the Black Tie edition but with a twist. I think one of the other POA members has theirs painted the same, but can't find his/her car.
