Just need a little reasurance before I start hacking my Prowler into little tiny bits for body mod's. Has anybody with a Hiboy setup been hastled by the cops for lack of front/rear fenders or front/rear bumpers. I have been driving around without the bumpers for a while nobody has said a thing yet. I know with the tires that are on the Prowlers that they more then likely throw a bunch of road pebbles into the air which is a problem. But I also see a lot of early ford/chevys running around with plates and no fenders. I am also looking for a used rear Hiboy kit if anybody has one laying around, If not then I am going to see about fabbing my own up, I have built enough fiberglass kit cars that I should be able to do a decent job of it. But a used cheap Hibody clip would be best and cleaner. My painter wasts to do black flames with a little bit of red pinstriping over the stock yellow, He thinks that this will look better when the fenders are removed and front suspension powdercoated or painted black. |

Sounds like you and the painter have some great ideas. Should be really sharp when you finish. Keep us posted with plenty of pics. I still love the hi-boy look. Go for it. |

I have been digging through the SEMA sites. As well as a few other hot rod sites. To be honest I think that they are more worried about noise and pollution then fenders so its difficult to track down. Will do some more searching tonight. |

I can answer your question ...partly. As stated above, the laws vary by state, but most all states have a law under the traffic section requiring all vehicles to be equiped with a front and rear bumper. (Innitiated due to safety guidlines) The infraction is in most states a "Non Moving infraction". This means that NORMALLY it would not pose any point problems to your license. However.... The choice in citations given for this infraction are; A. A non moving citation for a small fee...like $50.00. B. A warning, and no citation. or C. A "fix it ticket". Be VERY carefull of this option. If it is explained to you, it might sound like you go put the bumpers on, and there will be some nominal fee, like $5.00 and that's that. But, what is not normally explained is that if you FAIL to get this fixed and FAIL to provide proof that it is fixed, you will receive points on your license. Sometimes, 4 to 6 points. So, if this citation is given, make sure you follow through. Hope this helps. |

I want to remove bumpers also but my main concern is insurance companies. If you get rear ended and the other company sees that there are no bumpers, I wonder if they can get away with paying a partial settlement do to no bumpers. |

Been driving around all day without the front fenders or bumpers, + a straight exhaust. Seen a lot of cops, no funny stares just thumbs up's and waves. I think that the Prowler is weird enough that they just don;'t have a frame of refereance as to what it is supposed to look like or sound like. |
