I was offered a 2001 Moholland Prowler that has over 106,000 miles on it! Well kept and maintained and it's cheap. Any opinions? Am I asking for trouble? Stay away at all cost or buy if price is right? Thanks in advance! This message has been edited by FJP on 07-27-2005 at 11:01 AM |

I don't think you can automatically say that 106,000 miles is too much. If you think the price is right, you can get a lot of enjoyment out of the car for a relatively low price. The down side is that if you start to make a bunch of mods, you may be pouring money down a well. If you are satisfied with the car the way it is, go for it. |

If the price is right, it would be a good opportunity to drop a stroker motor in it with gears and tranny upgrades. |

FJP, For under $20k, if she runs & looks great, go for it! I thought 41,000 was a lota miles on the '99 I bought June 2004 for my wife's return from IRAQ...but we have had NO problems whatsoever, but only put 9k on it over the year due to her being away on military orders. With 50k miles on it today--it still looks, feels, smells & drives like new! I get asked all the time if "it's the new model?" by those who dunno...so I'd say that's a compliment for a '99. ------------------ |

I've no major problems with mine no self induced form too much nitrous. With 115,000 miles of "spirited" driving the tranny is still in one piece and no major problems. If the engine konks out on you a 3.5 from a junk yard will run less than $2000.00 (plus installation) with less than 25,000 miles or a new engine from DC will be several times that much. I've heard of 50,000 mile cars selling for $23K or so but if if looks to be in good shape and you feel the price is right - good luck. |

At 106K a lot of components will be reaching their design life. Engine/transaxle seals and gaskets won't be far behind. If you are handy with a wrench, it might not be a big deal and a great purchase. If you are not a mechanic, but have the budget to replace, rebuild, and repair it could still be a good deal. If neither, than I would spend another 8-10K upfront and get a low miles Prowler....there are lots on the market! My two cents. |

106000 mi really isn't the end of it's service life for a modern car as long as it has been maintained properly, for under $20000.00 i think it's a good buy to get into a cool car, most wearable parts on the prowler is standard issue chrysler parts from one car or the other, if that's your budget & you're handy, i say go get it.  |

Yeah, I would say go for it. A 2001 Mulholand (cool color) with that man miles means that it has to have lots of non-abrasive highway miles on it (I would assume). So if they changed the oil and stuff, sounds fine. And if the engine goes, drop in Dean's 5.0 My brother-in-law is looking for a car just like that, if he could find a prowler for $20-$22K, my sister will let him buy one. |

This SOB who was selling the car sold it to someone else. AFTER I made travel arrangements to FL to pick it up. He notified me in a one sentence email. I had the bank check, paperwork, tickets and everything else ready to go - and he knew I was on my way. Gee-wiz, I'm making a trip from PA to see the car! Do you think that maybe he could have told them just to wait a day or two until I saw it? It's not like he's around the corner. I have to fly there and I scheduled time off from work! I understand he was under no obligation, but how about a little personal integrity for heavens sake. I certainly would have never done that to anyone else regardless. And, I'm sure, the "other" buyer would still be interested if I didn't take it. It's only one extra day. Heck, that buyer probably read about it here. Bottom line? I wasn't too sure about all the miles anyway on the car and the looong drive home. I found another one today that I placed an offer with. That looks to be a solid deal right now. (famous last words). On the other side of the coin,,,,,,,,for nearly the same 20K,,why wouldn't one buy a 'new' '05 V-8 Mustang with 0 miles and a full factory warranty? Just a thought. |

it was a sign.... pay more... go low mileage... thats only my opinion... the question i would ask myself would be " Am i going to drive it on weekends only, or am I going to drive it alot, daily driver ? " if you intend to drive it as much as you can, then i would get a low mileage car, WARNING : Once you get it , you will think of any excuse to drive it... |

It was not 'right' for that person to sell out from under you, but, it may have been a blessing in desguise! Be mad, get over it, and find another better deal on the Prowler of your dreams! Don't give up, I waited 9 full years to make my dream come true! |

My guess is that he had sellers remorse and used that excuse to back out of the deal. He might not have even sold it to anyone else. Sometimes when a person has a deal, they get to thinking that ,maybe, they have priced it too cheap. Only he knows the real reason. |
