I just purchased a 1999 Prowler with 3550 miles on it. It is in excellent condition. I wanted to ask the folks on this board for a little advice. Is there a certain upgrade (e.g. mudflaps) that you would recommend? Given your own experience owning a Prowler, is there any sort of accessory you would buy right now? Is there anything you did to or with your Prowler when you first got it that, in retrospect, was a mistake? I'm a physician by trade and have a very limited knowledge of automobiles. Anyone have any advice for a "newbie?" Thanks. |

Welcome, and congratulations! I got my kat recently and it's been some of the most fun I've had in a long time. The first thing I did is drive it. A lot. I highly recommend that. Already have over doubled the original mileage One of the first things I actually put on my kat was the Mopar hitch. They're still in stock right now (wiring harnesses too) and I wanted to leave open the option of adding a weekender or luggage rack in the future (as well as towing motorcycle). This was motivated by three reasons: 1) After all the hitches are gone, I really don't know whether DC will make another batch or just discontinue the part (Prowler parts have been disappearing from their lists, like the colored floor mats...) 2) Even though trailers are no longer available from DC, if I ever manage to find one I'd need a hitch in order to tow it 3) I am a camping & roadtripping kind of guy, and I've done road trips in my kat already to joshua tree (this weekend may be death valley...it's in bloom!). I've done them with friends in the kat and it is possible to fit a lot of stuff in the car. I also road trip on a motorcycle and am used to packing light. Not all my friends are, though, so I can see a potential need for luggage space in the future...and the hitch is the best way to get there Oh yeah, and also don't forget to read up and memorize as many of the facts and as much of the Prowler history & story as you can. You are going to need to be able to make interesting conversaion ed |

WELCOME ABOARD DOC!!! Ed is usually right. Front mudflaps available from your Mopar parts department and ceramic 'front' brake pads from an auto parts store. No problem if you have limited auto knowledge,,,,many of us have limited knowledge of any type, lol. Feel free to ask questions here anytime,,,and add your input when you want. welcome! Front mudflaps before anything...and hang em as low as you can. The rock chips are brutal otherwise. Try to get a Borla cat back exhaust while they still make 'em. I hated to look at the stock rusty pipes...hideous for car shows. The Borla pipes will never rust. |

You'll probably find that you start with one mod and then continue personalizing the car to your own preference-there is no such thing as the wrong mod-some you'll like more than others! Most importantly....enjoy the car and lots of smiles you'll pick up along the way... ------------------ |

Well, hello and congrats fellow 'Prowler' from the "Heart of the Valley" - I guess us Alabamians are really getting into prowling now ? Although I had my cat for a couple of years now I just recently discovered this great site and lots of other 'cat-lovers', it's great ! I definitely recommend the splashguards/mudflaps - at least for the front - personally I don't like the rear ones but the front ones are essential to avoid those rock chips. Have fun and maybe we can start a local 'meetin' ' for us TN-Valley Prowlers ?? |

Congratulations and welcome to POA! We all agree to agree with Ed.......definitely the mud guards and the ceramic brake pads. Mopar will continue to supply hitches as long as there is a demand. Mopar only offers the floor mats in silver, but our new Prowler store will be offering floor mats in all the Prowler colors. Mopar is not discontinuing the Prowler Borla Exhaust, but even if they should in the future, we've gotten a commitment from Borla that they will continue to offer it to the Prowler community. Now.........drive and have a blast!!! Classic/Beautiful - I'm referring to the Cat of course! This message has been edited by CJ on 04-02-2004 at 07:34 AM |

1. Front mudflaps 2.Ceramic brake pads on front ONLY 3. Search old prolweronline.com posts to learn what is available to you 4.Attend one of the Prowler events and look at what everyone has done. 5. Then remove your bumpers, sun visors, & windshield wipers; add an Air Patrol, Weekender, and custom shifter. Shimmer to your hearts desire; get a trailer, trailer stand, and hinge protectors; A Dekprotec is a must also. Add some gears, nitrous and a supercharger; SSS or Borla exhaust and headers will help also. Paint some interior bezels, add carbon fiber dash overlays, flames the hood and sides, and get a tranny cooler cover. After those minor adjustments, you will be ready to modify to your make your kat your own! You may even want round headlights! ------------------ |

Thanks so much to everyone for the warm welcome as well as the recommendations. It looks like mud flaps and ceramic front brake pads are the first order of business. I will try to implement all of Mr. Usher's suggested upgrades if I can talk one of my surgical colleagues into removing one of my kidneys for sale on the black market. |

Congrats. I always recommend going to a deserted parking lot with a friend and spend quality time learning where the front end of the car is-it's very, very long. Especially the chin down there. Knowing where it is will really help keep down on the body damage. Also learn where the back end is. Your sitting in the back seat as you drive with 8 feet of hood out in front of you. Practice turning, stopping and just getting used to seeing out of it. Mess with the seat adjustments till you FIT properly and comfortably. Adj. the mirrors. Since it's a used car check and adj. the tire pressure to 26 to 28lbs all around. Get in the habit of doing this at least once a month using a race car gauge ( O-60lbs. range-suggest Longacare). These are sold at race prep. shops not auto stores etc. Learn how to clean it 'cus that's the biggest job. Use good products and enjoy the driving experience of it-that's the greatest fun of all. Hope I didn't overload you-Obi-Wan |

I realize that this has probably been addressed in other threads, but what do folks recommend as far as washing a Prowler? I assume that running this thing through the local automatic car wash would be a bad idea. I've noted that a lot of cat owners use Meguiar's brand of cleaning supplies. |

Use 100 % cotton towels made in USA, to dry it. Others have fibres that can scratch the clear coat. Don't use dish detergent, that removes the wax. Almost any top quality car cleaner will work. |

quote: I am certainly no doctor but now at least someone on this board has addressed me as "Mr." Some may think I have gone a little overboard in the modification department. (are you reading this Rebecca?) However my point was to make the car what you want it to be and have fun doing it. The suggestion about attending a POA event to see what others have done was serious as was the comments about mudflaps and ceramic brake pads for the front. The advise about getting some CD's you enjoy was a good one too! Enjoy ------------------ |

quote: quote: I don't know... I thought the kidney mod sounded pretty cool! Dr. - I got some Fieldcrest towels at Bed Bath and Beyond for a great price. I got 2 hand towels, 2 bath towels, and 1 super size beach towel for about $25. They are made of 100% US cotton - NO OTHER MATERIALS. I also regularly get coupons for either $5 off or 20% off purchases there. Let me know if you need the coupons and I'll send you a couple. I have one of each now. One expires 4-19 and the other on 4-26. Even tho it says only one coupon per purchase, they let me use both at once. Just email me your address. Another good towel is microfiber towels you can get a Wal-mart for about $4.29 for 5 on the bottom shelf. These are good lint-free towels, but they do have poly fibers in them. Welcome to the POA and congratulations on your new Kat! ------------------ |
