I'm not a owner YET, but I'm in the market for a good used Prowler. I've been going to POA classifieds, ebaymotors, carnuts and automarket.com and I've been close, but I haven't cut a deal yet. Any advice for a novice Prowler want-a-be?

You may be able to find a new 01' for a sweet deal if your open on your color choice. I bought my 01' Plymouth new in Feb for the price of most used 99'-00's at the time. It's even the color I wanted too. They are out there, you just gotta look hard!

If you get a 01 or 02 you will get the nifty little computor/compass/mileage goodie in the rear view mirror.

Randy,
Try autotrader.com. I found several yellows for under $35,000.

Randy - I'd suggest www.autotrader.com also.

Try to understand the owner,,,,who they are and how the car was used and treated. Email them direct for information. Stay away from cats that had a exotic rental car agency owner and history,,,,,probably have had the crap punished out of them, and more. JMO

Thanks for all the great advice everyone!

Frank - Yeah, I may have to open my color choices,but my whole family likes the idea of a yellow one. I'll take your advice and try to be patient and keep looking hard. I've found a few new ones, but it's hard for me to justify $44k for a new one when it appears the mid 30s can get a good used one if you're patient and lucky. I plan on driving it not just buying, garageing and holding as an investment.

Alex & RbadKat - Thanks for the heads up about the rear view mirror computer. I have kids who will definitely want to ride. I read/heard somewhere that in '99 they started with the on/off switch for the passenger side airbag. Is this correct?

Just JP - You said you found several yellow cats on Autotrader.com for under $35,000. I assume this wasn't recently, because over the past 3 weeks I have found a few offerings, but most have been new ones.

Alley Cat - Thanks for the advice on the previous owner. I had never stop to think that a rental agency would have a Prowler in their fleet.

My '02 has a switch to turn of the passenger air bag. I don't know what year that feature was introduced.

If you buy a vehicle from the original owner, then the extended warranty (like the 7-year powertrain warranty) may be transferrable (but only at the time of sale). In any case, ask the owner about what warranties are in effect and if they are transferrable.

Randy,
Actually, I read your post, went to autotrader and then posted. I was going to add a direct link, but when you pick a specific ad, the address gets weird. Go there, search both Chrysler AND Plymouth. Also, put in ANY distance. I'm guessing that you are willing to get it from anywhere if the price is right. Good luck.

JP... All you need to do is delete everything to the right of the car_id and dealer_id in the autotrader link... The rest of the items in the link are search criteria, but with the car_id number and dealer_id number explicielty defined in the link, you don't need all that other search criteria junk to link to the add.

In short, the link looks like this: "www.autotrader.com/findacar/vdetail.jtmpl?car_id=83446465&dealer_id=1388771&certified=n&max_price=35000&
start_year=1982&end_year=2003&address=22901&search_type=used&make=PLYM&model=PROWLE&
min_price=0&distance=any&advcd_on=n&advanced=n&color=&car_year=2000&ac_afflt=none"

but all you need is this:
"www.autotrader.com/findacar/vdetail.jtmpl?car_id=83446465&dealer_id=1388771"

Randy,
The 99 does have the passenger bag on/off switch also. It is located on the side of the dash, can only be accessed when the passenger door is open.

The 01 and newer also have a smoother ride. We have a 99 and an 01. For longer trips the 01 is easier on the backside.

Good luck with whatever color you decide on.

Any color is great.
