Is a plant tour and CAAP store going to be available on the last day of production? I would be interested to deal with the cold to see the end of our cats.

Bobcat,

Why would those plant workers lose their jobs. I thought Chrysler was going to up the production on the vipers and the prowler line workers would have new positions there? Am I wrong?

I'm sure that the Prowler Employees would appreciate the thank you's we could extend to them as the last Prowler exits the line eventhough this job assignment would be over for them. It would be a very touching moment if could be arranged. I have a baby on the way but would come if allowed to help send off the Prowler in style.

All I called Chrysler this morning and got the name of a woman that is responsible for Tours / Contact etc for teh Prowler /Viper plant. Her name is Sylvia Collins at
313-369-6702. Unfortunatly she is out of the office for the holidays returning on Jan 2nd. I left her a message in behalf of the Prowlers owners club! Once she gets back I will try to figure out some dates and times that we could go. Also to meet some of the folks on the line.

Please respond to this if you are interested so i could get a count of folks that might want to come.
Trey

I don't understand why they wouldn't have a tour of the plant? The car was only supposed to have a 5 year run. This can't be that big of a surprise to the workers. I would think that having some owners of the car they built would be good for moral. At least they would see how the product they have built is respected by the public. Just my 2 cents.

HELL YES! We need to go thank those guys for the pitted wheels, the leaking headlights, and all the other goodies!

Seriously, I am in. I love the car, the plant seems cool and maybe we can take some extra plant stuff they won't need home!

MERRY KATMAS!

treyb......I have already spoken to Sylvia. This is the same Sylvia that runs the Corner Store at the plant. She indicated to me that she does not want to do any tours.

If you remember when Daimler "merged" with Chrysler, it was announced that with the new "plan" (downsizing and reorganization), personnel was going to be cut 20% across the board. CAAP had not been hit by that up to this point. However, it finally came full circle. Obviously, no one wants to lose their job. Times are difficult right now at best and here in Detroit, unemployment is tough. DC is not the only company here who have implemented lay-offs. GM, Ford and a number of other large companies. Jobs are tough to find in an area that has been flooded with people who have lost their jobs. In addition to that, now the Prowler production has come to an end and that will likely mean more job cuts. Yes, Viper will still be produced, but it doesn't necessarily mean that they need the manpower. It is so unfortunate.

The people who do the tours are actually workers that they pull off the line. Sylvia has stated to me that she does not want to ask them to conduct the tours. Yes, everyone knew that the end was going to come at some point. But knowing that and having it actually become reality is much different. Look at how everyone on the board reacted even though we all knew the same thing.

Of course they have pride in what they have done with the Prowler and I know that they appreciate the fact that we appreciate their part in producing this vehicle. As you know, from my other thread, we are putting together something to commemorate them that we will make sure they get.

If they are adamant about not doing a tour, I for one, will respect their decision.
