Thanks for all your info all the wax, since you all were so very helpful on my last question, here's one more. I have a couple of buddies that are members of a car club up North here called USO. To make a long story short they're trying to get me to put wire wheels on the Cat. I have no doubt that it would look nice,(can't imagine anything not looking nice on my baby), but I've notice from a lot of the pics everybody seems to keep the stock wheels. Is it a sin to change them? I would definately like all the imput my new found Prowler family could give. ------------------ |

In the past there has been little choice....the only custom wheels I have seen are Budniks...they also look similar to the stock wheel...personally, I have yet to see anything I like better than stock....I am sure there will be more choices available as time goes by...there may already be more out there than I am not aware of, but the selection has been limited so far...the Budniks were in the $3,000. range for a set... .......you are right...anything looks good on a Prowler !! ------------------ |

dbsjazz.............not sure if I welcomed you to the board and to POA the first time I replied on one of your posts. So, if I didn't, WELCOME!!! With regard to the wheels. I like the stock wheels, so I have never bothered to look at anything else. My 99 cat is stock other than changing the bumpers to the 2000 black bumpers. Do you not like the looks of the Prowler stock wheels? Here's kind of a strange question.....have you actually seen another Prowler driving at speed where you have seen what the wheels look like other than when the car is parked? Since I am always driving my cat, I had not really seen what that looks like. While I was heading home from the Indy event, John Schulz was traveling with us for a short distance. When we split into different directions on the Interstate, I was able to see his car. I had commented to my husband at the time that it was the first time I actually got to see what my car looked like driving down the road! John's cat is black like mine! I thought the wheels looked pretty great!!! Are there a lot of other choices out there for the 20" wheel size? Tangled is right, wouldn't want to have to clean wire wheels all the time. Of course, everyone will jump on that and tell you to change the brake pads to the ceramic pads so you won't have the brake dust issue. My hubby still has reservations about the ceramic pads and the long term effect on the rotors, so I will probably always have to deal with the brake dust. However, I don't find it a big deal to clean them either. But you are still going to have to keep them polished and clean................ And, no, it isn't a sin. As you can tell from this board, there are a LOT of people who have done modifications to their car. It is a matter of choice. Some people like to do mods and some like to stay stock. It's your car, do whatever makes you happy! If it was a sin, there would be a lot of people going to Hell..........oh, but wait a minute.........we are going to Hell.........Michigan, that is! But that's a different subject!! LOL!!! ------------------ This message has been edited by CJ on 05-20-2001 at 07:12 AM |

We have a 1997 or 99, Purple in our area with spoke wheels. The wheels are actually much thinner then the stock 20 X 10's. From the side it looks ok, if your into spokes, but being thinner from the back was not my personal cup of tea. Maybe Larry Lord or George C has taken a picture of this Kat? An interesting *note* on that Kat, the owner refuses to acknowledge our existance, weird. Even with ceramic pads, there is no way in the world I'd want to be polishing spoke wheels on ANY car... takes me 3 hours to detail the Kat's as it is, PLUS another hour before hand to wash them. Unless you have the time or the bucko's to have another person do a detail at $100-$150 a pop, every few hundred miles... or like dirty spokes! ------------------ |

Thank you all for your input. You are right CJ, my wife finally got the guts to drive the cat down the block, first time I ever really got to see my cat in motion(What an Awesome sight!) and the wheels looked just as awesome. They do make the wire wheels 20 x 10.5, but they are pricee. I think my buddies are just trying to get me to change my wheels, because thats one of the requirements to become a member of the USO car club. As for now, I'm very happy with the way the cat looks, with stock wheels. Thanks again everybody, you all have been very helpful from day one! ------------------ |

There was a Black Kat at the Texas Speed Weekend that had a set of solid chrome wheels on it. There was no spoke at all. That was really sharp, didn't get who it was though. It may have been oone of the Dallas group there. Chris, do you know who that was and what the wheels are? It may have been the car with the red lights under it??? ------------------ |

American Racing makes Torque Thrust's in 20's and 17's. Those are the wheels from the SoCal Speed Shop Prowler. They are not chromed but are polished aluminum.

I love polished billet aluminum wheels. When I looked for some for my Prowler, many manufacturers were willing and able, but I selected Budnik since he had owned a Prowler and made the Famosa style for his own car. They have many styles, as does Coddington, Colorado, etc... I liked the classic and clean look of these and I've been using them for over a year now. They also reduce unsprung weight which helps a bunch. |
