When my car is warm, my dash squeaks. It comes from the bezel that goes around my stereo and air conditioner vents. It started at 1000 miles, and hasn't quit. I've never noticed it when the car, or temperature, is cold. Has anyone encountered this problem? ------------------ |

Brian - I have the same, but not too bad. My music is usually cranked, so I don't hear it. When I get old and it pisses me off, I'll look into fixing it. |

This may in no way be related but I ad a squeak/noise from some where in the dash area. Had my wife drive and with me upside down in the passenger seat, head under dash, found the darn thing. It turned out to be the screws came loose on the plastic cover under the steering wheel... It sure didn't sound like it was over there but that stopped it since. Hope this might help. ------------------ |

Mike this difficulty has been acknowledged by many owners including myself, in my case it went away after a few thousand miles. Hang in there! Muz |

I was able to eliminate 95% of the squeaks and rattles in my 1999 Prowler. It involves: (1) using the female (soft) side of velcro in specific locations under the dash and under the hood; (2) placing rubber washers on specific locations on the convertible top and trunklid; and (3) using custom-made aluminum frame braces that I made to stiffen the frame. Number (1) should eliminate the squeaks you are referring to. After I did the above, my car rode smoother and was more sqeak and rattle free than my 1999 Corvette Coupe. I will try to post pics and how-to instructions later this evening. This message has been edited by William Gallagher on 12-13-2000 at 02:50 PM |

This first image is of the dash. The female side (soft side) of the velcro (yellow arrows) prevents the dash from rubbing against plastic parts under the dash and the interior material surrounding the gauges. This next image is of the pin on the convertible top. The bottom arrow is pointing to a flat, rubber washer. The top arrow points to a smaller flat, rubber washer (1/4 x 1/2 x 1/16) that fits snuggly over the pin to hold the larger washer (about 1/4 x 1 x 1/16) on. This prevents the top from rubbing and smacking against the windshield header. The last image is of the pin on the trunklid. The bottom arrow is pointing to a flat, rubber washer. The top arrow points to a smaller flat, rubber washer (1/4 x 1/2 x 1/16) that fits suggly over the pin to hold the larger washer (about 1/4 x 1 x 1/16) on. This prevents the trunklid from rubbing and smacking against the plastic guide in which the pin rests when the trunklid is closed. Unfortunately, your squeaking is probably caused from the hood rubbing up against certain rubber and plastic parts in the engine compartment. The fix is the same principle as putting the soft velcro on the dash.I dont have my pictures yet, but I will post them as soon as I get them. Also, these images are a sneak peek at the frame braces I made to stiffen the frame. They work incredibly well, are lightweight and easy to install. I will be selling them online soon, along with a couple other custom items for the Prowler. This message has been edited by William Gallagher on 12-13-2000 at 06:20 PM |

If that squeak is a very high frequency kind of noise, try gently pushing with your index finger on the center gauge lenses one by one while driving over the kind of bump that makes it squeak the worst. I found that my problem was due to the interaction of the gauge lens and the dash. Very slight pressure on the offending lens immediately ended the noise. The cure, any foam or rubber washer might be wedged between the lens and the dash to separate the materials. Good luck. ------------------ This message has been edited by Paul on 12-13-2000 at 11:30 PM |

The best thing to use to find any and all squeaks is a doctor's stethoscope. You can get a cheap one at a medical supply house or a better drug store. Just have someone drive you and listen to find the loudest section. I can pin point a squeak in no time flat with one. PS I have a squeak in my new Black Tie, have to find the steth, but I think it is the top. Anyone have top squeaks ------------------ |
