xpguyWe have read several of the threads on front plate installs and liked the idea of dropping it off the front bumper since Christine actually likes the look of the front bumper.

I went to Home Depot and got a T-strap and two gusset angles for $4.35.

The T-strap fit the OEM front plate holder perfectly.

The gusset angles needed a little trimming to fit in the groove under the front bumper. Secured with some silicone and self tapping screws made them snug as a bug.

The gusset angles attached neatly to the T-strap.

With the plate, the whole assembly weighs a little over 2 pounds.

Fully assembled the plate is very firm and looks a lot better than on the front of the bumper IMO.

Only when you get under the bumper can you see the T-strap.

Thanks for looking and be kind. It is my first project and I cut myself.

Awesome idea, shows great ingenuity. And don't worry, I've been playing with tools, metal, wood, and plastic for years and I still cut myself. Have small scars all over my hands to prove it! Just yesterday I got a bunch plastic shavings in my eyes from using a dremel tool. All for making a custom shift knob fit in my vette.

1. Good job.

2. Poor baby, you cut yourself.

3. Great minds think alike - this was my first post as well.

GRROWL is a 2000 Yellow Prowler. I have benefitted from the online discussion boards from day one (June 2000) and figured it's time to give something back.

It always bothered me that they drilled into the bumper to mount the front plate, so at least there was some benefit when (out in left field at Office Depot, away from all other cars) some kid zipping around in a BMW snagged the bumper from behind and folded it into the grill. Those front bumpers really collapse when hit from behind.

Soooo, while I was waiting for the new bumper to arrive, I did a post-mortem on the old one. Being off of the car and upside down on the workbench, it sure seems that Plymouth designed the bumper to take a front license plate mount the way I will describe below.

xpguyGRROWL,

I bow to your genious and thank you for posting that link. It was your thread that inspired my project and I give you full credit. I could not remember which thread it was so my opening line was meant to show this was not my original idea. Even donating $10 I still come out ahead. I figured with buying an Air Patrol, trailer hitch, PT Cruiser luggage rack, Borla exhaust, front mud flaps, ceramic pads, tranny cover, car cover, cold air intake, valve stem logo caps, license plate logo caps, rear Cat Wing shimmer, radio bezel, steering wheel shimmer, and a Prowler mug, I have spent over $3,000 in the first two weeks of ownership. Add in the extended warranty I got on Friday, and I wager I may have spent more on mods in the first two weeks than most folks. I definitely need to slow down!!! Of course I am looking at Jay's billet center caps now. When does it end??

Is that ALL??

End???

Marty UsherYour mods are a good start, but you still have an entire week left in your first month - why waste it by not modifying more.

Repeat after me - "THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS TOO MANY MODS"

Seriously - it never ends. There is always some new idea that pops into your head or you see something else someone else has come up with.

Have fun!

I know, I was joking - I saw the quote in the first line (I thought I posted with a winky smiley, but I see not)

I hate to admit it, but I'm copying Alley Cat on that one.

So when will you be starting with some mods?

Welcome to the Board - and enjoy the mods.

Well, I got to the bottom of that one - if you prepare a reply using the "Quote" function and then do a "Preview", you lose the smiley that you picked when you make any changes.

xpguyGRROWL,

I caught the wink even though it did not make it. I am familiar with your posts and knew where you were coming from. I do not take many things too seriously, and cars have always been a hobby. I recently sold my boat and decided to play with cars for awhile. I enjoy this board and agree, the mods will probably never end. What scares me right now is I am considering a second Prowler for Christine. Once the Mercedes is gone we will have a spot in the garage for something else and the Ford GT40 is out. It seems like many folks on here have two Kats and it got me thinking.... Oh no, there I go again...

ed monahanHaving two Prowlers is as stupid as having a hardtop for a convertible, in my opinion. I guess to each his own.

It would be even stupider (is that a word? Oh well it fits here!) to have two hardtops for two convertibles. -- Have you tried that yet, Ed?

But, the added value of a hardtop is that you have a whole new set of mods available to you:
- extended decklid protector
- storage cradle/cabinet
- lift and/or electric hoist
- more area to stripe, decal or what have you

ed monahanMarty, NO, I do have some self control. However, Sandy just got a big raise and then today they mentioned a promotion with another big raise. I am here for encouragement for her. That is my full time job. lol.
