Drove a new vette at the chevy dealer today. I noticed the Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Corvette has finally joined Porsche MB,Audi,Ferrari, Lambo, etc. It only took three years. The cars are smooth and sticky and last 40k miles!!
My Prowler has these and love them. A little pricey but worth it.

Give up the 10s for 9 and 1/2 inch. 1/2 won't kill you. Or you can go to 305s and keep the 10s. (warning.not sure the 305s won't touch something.)

The original Prowler rims are crap. The centers are a problem even if you put orings or do something else . The insides won't hold the chrome plating very long, they peel and look terrible.

Actually there are quite a few Prowler wheels that never had a problem. I had a few replaced under warranty way back in 99 or 2000 and never had another problem with them.
None of the 12 I currently have, are peeling.
The Dick Linnemann fix takes care of the center caps, pretty darn well. There is a picture of one that failed, supposedly, but the center cap wasn't lost which indicates it probably got screwed up taking it off the car, not by falling off.

Actually the original prowler rims were painted silver. I have a pair on my car now that are 16 years old and look new. They still have the original center caps in good shape.

I do like your rims though Gort.

The original Prowler wheels, painted silver, were never intended to be chrome plated. The supplier fought against having to chrome plate them. The back barrels which due to the wheel design are very visible. Most aftermarket wheel manufacturers don't warranty the back barrels, only the show face. While the chrome center caps break mounting tabs easily, has anyone broken one of the original silver center caps?

You might want to carefully research using Michelin Sport Cup tires on your Prowler. Don't get me wrong, these are great tires and I've used them on a number of applications. The concern is some of these are a three season tire not suitable for cold weather. That's not -40 below it's +40 above. The tires can crack. Here's a link to the GM Service Bulletin.

I'm sorry but I really wouldn't want to buy a car that is sticky or will only last 40k miles. Tires maybe but not a car.

Sorry Gort, I simply couldn't resist having a little fun with your post.

Ed,
That shows you exactly how little I have been on the site in the past couple of years.
It also shows you how close I pay attention regarding the age of a particular thread.

I have decided that the 315/35 Michelin SuperSports will work on the rear without scrubbing. I'll do the OEM size Michelin SuperSports on the front. I doubt I'll ever drive it colder than 40 so the temp limitations of these tires won't be a factor.

I'll post some pics when I get them on.

I bought the car and trailer from the estate of the Original Owner who passed away. He and his wife's names were on the Title and she passed a few years ago. He didn't have her name removed because that trip to the Georgia Capitol and back would remove the "NEW" description from the Title and replace it with "USED."

He didn't want that. When I took the Title to get my tags today, I couldn't transfer the Title to me because they said when the wife died, she may have willed her interest in the car to someone other than her husband and if that happened, HIS executor doesn't have the right to sell it to me.

I am now waiting on proof documents to prove to MY county that the husband assumed 100% interest in the car when his wife died and now his son (the executor of his will) has the right to sign the Title over to me.

Thanks, It's just a minor time-consuming technicality. They sent me a copy of the deceased wife's Will so it shows she passes EVERYTHING to her husband. That makes it 100% owned by the husband who has now passed. I am buying from his estate through the legal executor.

Now the tag office is saying the Executor must send the Title to the State Capitol and get it swapped into "THE ESTATE OF..." before he can legally sell it to me. Sheesh!

I have owned airplanes and helicopters and built and flown homebuilt experimental aircraft for 30 years and the FAA Bureaucracy is nowhere near as much of a hassle as the DMV.

And...Even though I was wanting the Michelin Super Sports pretty badly but I was having trouble finding a tire shop that was willing to put the 315's on a 10" rim.

By the time I found out Butler Tire in Marietta, GA WOULD do it http://www.butlertire.com/products/Tires, I had already given up and decided on the Nitto 555 G2's in the correct sizes.

The Nittos save me about $500.
