OK, I'm searching for tires (other than Falken) for the Cat. While I realize there is a problem finding a perfectly matched pair front and back, there are LOTS of 295/40R20 tires out there, and some tread designs look excellent. Most all of them are listed for "SUV or Cross-over" vehicles. Question - will they work on the Cat? I know the speed/load limitations are important, but what about the 'ride' for most of them? Are the sidewalls too stiff for a comfortable ride? This message has been edited by EdsCat on 04-09-2014 at 01:32 PM |

I picked up Toyo tires for my 01 Prowler a couple of months ago and couldn't be happier. |

Matching tread design is a big problem. Other than Falken, I don't think there are any matching sets out there. I've just about decided that I'll pick one of the 20" tread designs that I really like, and find a close front tread. I just don't like the asymmetric tread designs at all.

quote: No, Goodyear run flats were. The biggest concern is finding front and rear tires that match with the same tread design. There aren't many out there to begin with and Goodyear no longer makes the original tire or even a substitute in matching tread designs so your choices are limited unless you change the size of the rim with aftermarket rims or put a non stock tire size on the 20 inch rim which is usually bigger in diameter and can rub the frame and throw your speedometer off. |

I am not concerned about Falken tires. I'm just looking for a more aggressive tread pattern. It appears that those who have purchased the Falkens are very happy with them. The price is a definite plus. This message has been edited by EdsCat on 04-05-2014 at 11:57 AM |

You can always get the Continental DWS. Matched thread front and rear. OEM size for 17 and 20 wheels. |

Those tires have the asymmetrical tread designs. I've found some tires that are a little different size than our stock. Here is a program on Discount Tire website that lets you put in two tire sizes and compare the differences. http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/infoTireMath.dos Look at the 2 comparisons of STOCK tire size, and a possible replacement of different size. QUESTION - Does anyone see a problem with the difference in sizes - rubbing, etc. - in front and/or back tires? This message has been edited by EdsCat on 04-08-2014 at 08:11 AM |

You know, those tires might not look bad at all on the Cat. A lot of hot rods that have big tires on the back and smaller on the front don't have the same tread design. The car could pull it off I believe. Hey, we got to get creative, cause evidently BF Goodrich is not going to make them for us anytime soon.

I did it. My quest is over for a few more thousand miles. Bought them online at TiresDirect.Net - total cost delivered $676.83 with Road Hazard Protection. Tires will be here Monday. Going to cost me about $150 to have Discount Tire mount them. Thanks for all the PM responses. It really helped me make a decision. Onward... So you went with the Toyo's? If so, was it just the look of the tread that made you decide on them over the Falken's? |

Yes, pretty much. I like the more aggressive treads on the rears. Wanted to keep the same name on the sidewalls. And, the reviews on the Toyo's in our sizes were pretty good also. Just personal choice - that's all. I'll know soon, as they are supposed to be here next Monday. I'm replacing the Orange TPMS sensors at the same time. They finally ran down after about 6 years. Needing to replace them was kind of the tipping point. I decided to get tires at the same time to reduce costs. Almost done. Almost... |

Are there safety or drivability issues with having different tread patterns? Or is it solely aesthetic? |

I've done it on several cars over the years. Even had bigger rear tires on my 1965 Mustang 2+2 Fastback in 1965. I'm sure there will be different opinions on this. This from Auto.com: "Not a problem if the front and rear tires have different tread designs. This only becomes an issue when the two tires on the same axle have different tread designs." I'm not concerned... |

Had the new Toyo's installed today. Took a 300 mile trip, and the ride is smoooooth. Excellent even at 95 mph. Just what the Cat needed. This message has been edited by EdsCat on 04-17-2014 at 08:23 AM |

Great photos, Weezy. Thanks! Both the fronts and the rears have a much more similar tread than the internet image in this post. Those look great. Great choice, guys. |

Thanks Eds and JDB. I actually found a different Toyo tire for the fronts that I liked, that's why the tread looks different. They are Extensa HP's. I found them online at tiresdirect.net, went to Discount Tire, he price matched cost of tires and shipping and had them delivered to his store in about 4 hours, drove off 2 hours after that. Discount Tire was actually lower on price for the rears than buying online and having them shipped. |
